By Barry Holbrook: Eddie Hearn says he’s not sure now if the Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte fight will happen because he feels it’s a “mess” right now for the April 23rd fight card.
If everything goes worked out, Fury will be defending his WBC heavyweight title against Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) next month in the main event at Wembley Stadium in London. According to Hearn, Whyte hasn’t been treated the way he’s accustomed.
Whether Whyte will choose not to fight or not remains to be seen. It could be big, big trouble if Whyte fails to show up on the night, leaving Fury standing all alone inside the ring.
“As I said before, I’m glad I’m not involved in the fight. I’d love to be promoting it, but what is going on behind it?” said Eddie Hearn to Intu Boxing about the Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte event on April 23.
“Dillian Whyte is used to being treated in a way than what he’s being treated because he’s used to working with us. Having seen all the Talksport stuff, I think the lawyer is accusing Frank Warren of having a poor credit rating and not having any money lodged in escrow.
“He said that Frank sold all the tickets to a ticket company and he couldn’t get the ones that he wanted to buy. The whole thing is a mess. Like I said, let’s just get these guys in the ring, but it’s going to be a rocky few weeks.
“I honestly believe Dillian Whyte,” said Hearn when asked who wins the fight. “Tyson Fury is the favorite. He’s the #1 heavyweight in the world on paper right now, but Dillian Whyte can win this fight. I think they’re all over this place, that team.
“I don’t think they even think the fights going to happen,” said Hearn.
“I just hope it happens,” said Hearn to Fight Stars TV on the Fury vs. Whyte fight. “I think it will. I’m not saying that because I’m trying to put doubt out there. If you listen to that as a fan, you’re probably thinking, ‘I can’t see this fight happening,’ but I’m sure they’ll resolve everything.
“The contracts have been signed but I wasn’t involved in the contracts. I can’t tell you what was promised and what wasn’t. It’s a lot of money. There are going to be a lot of concerns about getting paid,” said Hearn on the Fury – Whyte fight.
