By Jim Calfa: Josh Taylor looked and sounded like a fighter in deep denial following his controversial 12 round split decision win over Jack Catterall on Saturday night at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Insisting that he deserved the victory, undisputed light welterweight champion Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) says he’s moving up to 147, and that his fight with  Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs).

Taylor, 31, says he will NOT give Catterall a rematch between he feels there’s no need to. The judges picked the right man as the winner, according to Taylor.

Unfortunately, the boxing fans, media, and the final punch stats tell a different story.

Overwhelming, Catterall was viewed as the winner of the fight by fans and the media, which makes Taylor and his trainer sound delusional with their assistance that they did enough to deserve the decision.

Taylor moving to 147

“I’m 31-years-old, and getting back down to 140 is tough. It’s getting harder for me to make the weight. 147 next, for sure. That’s my last one,” said Josh Taylor to iFL TV after his controversial win over Jack Catterall on Saturday night.

“He never won the fight. The right man won the fight, but it was far from a marquee performance from myself, but the right man won the fight” said Taylor at the post-fight press conference.

“Because he did better than what everyone was expecting, they thought he won the fight,” said Taylor. “I scored the bigger shots, and I was the boss from the midway through to the end.

“With the point being taken away from me, it made the scorecards a little closer, but I definitely won the fight. I’ll be moving up. Maybe it was one too many fights at 140.

“Jack was very competitive in the fight, but he never won the fight,” said Taylor. “That’ll be my last performance at 140. No, I don’t think it was that tough, to be honest,” said Taylor when asked if Catterall was the toughest fight of his career.

What a shame that Taylor has to move up in weight without giving Catterall a rematch because this is the type of fight that will haunt him.

Even if Taylor does believe he deserved the victory, with so many boxing fans believing Catterall to be the true winner, Josh owes it to him to clear up the controversay.

Leaving the 140-lb division under a black cloud is not the way for Taylor to be leaving it.
