By Dan Ambrose: Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero says Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is “DUMB”, and he says he’s “smarter” than him. Rolly says Tank feels “inferior” to him as a person.
The #1 WBA ranked 135-lb contender Rolly detected Gervonta’s feelings of inferiority when the two were previously scheduled to fight on December 5th on Showtime PPV at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Unfortunately for Rolly, he was pulled from the card after sexual assault allegations surfaced about him. Although the 26-year-old Rolly was eventually cleared of the charges, it wasn’t until after he’d already been replaced by Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz as the opponent for Tank Davis.
Rolly (14-0, 12 KOs) and WBA lightweight champion Gervonta (26-0, 24 KOs) were ordered by the World Boxing Association to begin negotiations on January 24th, and they have until February 24th to come to an agreement before a purse bid takes place.
Gervonta, 27, is expected to be a big favorite over Rolly when the fight is eventually scheduled. But with Rolly’s power and size, he’ll have a puncher’s chance of pulling off the upset against the highly-rated Tank.
If the press conferences are anything like the kickoff one they had in Los Angeles for the December 5th fight, it should be interesting.
Rolly: Gervonta has no other options
“Dude, Gervonta is going to take this fight because he doesn’t have another option,” said Rolly to Fighthype. “I mean, who the f*** else is he going to sell a f*** pay-per-view with? I’m the mandatory.
“It doesn’t make sense for him to fight anybody else, and if he pusses out, it just shows that he’s a b****. I don’t think he’s going to b*** out. Confident? I brought him out of his f*** shell,” said Rolly when told that Gervonta seemed confident at their LA press conference.
“If the mother f**** acts different, it means something is in his mind. He’s not superman. He feels inferior to me, and I’m NOT talking about in boxing. Outside of everything,” Rolando said.
Rolando says Tank is “DUMB”
“I’m better looking than him, I’m stronger than him, I’m smarter than him. He’s a f*** dumb a**,” said Rolly. “I’m over there [at the LA press conference], and they tell me to be myself.
“I’ve never watched a f*** press conference in my life because they’re so boring.” said Rolly. “I never done a press conference before. They told me to be myself.
They honestly played me. But as the press conference went through, it was probably the most entertaining press conferences in the history of boxing, right?
“It’s going to be way better. I went up there, and I thought, ‘what am I supposed to do?’ No one literally told me what it’s like.
“It’s going to be way better. It wasn’t that I was uncomfortable,” said Rolly.
“Lomachenko’s dad doesn’t know s*** about boxing,” said Rolly. “His son is a great fighter. Usyk was already a great fighter,” said Rolly when told that Lomachenko’s dad, Anatoliy, worked with Oleksandr Usyk to improve him. I’m pretty sure that Usyk was already on the national team,” said Rolly.
