By Jim Calfa: Promoter Lou DiBella says George Kambosos Jr. will be deciding who his next opponent will be after the holidays.

But as of now, all the top lightweights are in play like Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, and Vasily Lomachenko.

It’s widely believed that Kambosos Jr. (20-0, 10 KOs) has already made up his mind that he wants WBC lightweight champion Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) next because that’s a fight that will make the 28-year-old Australian the undisputed champion in the real sense.

Haney = The only option for Kambosos

The decision is an easy one for DiBella and Kambosos, given that the only one that meets the requirements to take the fight is Haney.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, backed by DAZN, is willing to throw big money on the Kambosos Jr. vs. Haney fight, betting that the match will bring in a ton of new subscribers in the U.S and the UK.

Showtime president Stephen Espinoza said recently that it doesn’t make sense for Tank Davis to fight in Australia.

As for Ryan Garcia, he needs a tune-up, and he’s talking about wanting to fight Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz next.

Lastly, Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum reportedly isn’t interested in doing the fight with Kambosos for apparent reasons.

Kambosos isn’t a big name in the U.S despite his recent win over an injured and weight drained Teofimo Lopez on November 27th.

Subsequently, Arum can’t sell a fight between Lomachenko and Kambosos because the U.S boxing public won’t buy it in high numbers.

It’s excellent that Kambosos can brag about his win and say his fight will do big numbers in Australia to fill an 80,000 seat stadium.

Unfortunately, that’s guesswork on Kambosos part. The reality is that American casual boxing fans have never heard of him and won’t be willing to buy a fight between him and Lomachenko in high numbers.

Arum knows the U.S market well enough to realize that a fight between Kambosos Jr and Lomachenko wouldn’t sell for American boxing fans.

Kambosos to decide after holidays

“Everyone of the top fighters [at lightweight] is in the running. There’s nobody that George doesn’t want to fight,” said promoter Lou DiBella to Boxing Social on George Kambosos Jr.’s next fight.

“He’s going to be the one that makes the decision. He’s the emperor of the division. Now he’s got all the hardware. He’s going to make the decision. How can he not be in the running?” said DiBella about Vasily Lomachenko.

“He’s a great, great fighter, he obviously is, and there are other people in the running too, and George is going to make his decision after being presented with all the alternatives.

“That fight will be in Australia. I think Loma indicated that he would be willing to go there, and I think there are others that will be willing to go there, and we’ll figure it out after the holidays.

“Yeah, he’s certainly in the running, but that decision ultimately belongs to George Kambosos,” said DiBella about Lomachenko being one of a small handful of lightweights that are in the running for Kambosos’ next fight.
