By Ken Hissner: At Manchester Arena, Manchester, Lancashire, UK, over DAZN, Saturday, Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) presented in the Main Event the rematch WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight champion Joseph Parker in a hard-fought fight defeated Dereck “War” Chisora. In the co-feature, IBO World Super Middleweight champion Carlos Gongora was upset by split decision to Lerrone “Sniper the Boss” Richards.

In the Main Event WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, 30-2 (21), #251, of Auckland, NZ, defeated Dereck “War” Chisora, 32-12 (23), #248 ½, of Zimbabwe, and Finchley, London, UK, over 12 hard rounds.

In the third round, Parker landed half a dozen punches to the head of Chisora, having him hurt against the ropes halfway through the round. In the fifth round, Chisora walked into a right uppercut on the chin from Parker halfway through the round. Chisora came back in the final minute with a pair of right uppercuts to the chin of Parker. In the last seconds, a Parker right uppercut hurt Chisora.

In the seventh round, a right uppercut from Parker on the chin hurt Chisora, then pushed Chisora into the ropes with the referee Howard Foster giving an 8-count. In the final minute, Chisora rocked Parker with a left hook on the chin in the ninth round. He had Parker against the ropes at the end.

In the tenth round, both fighters were near exhaustion. Parker had the edge. In the twelfth and final round, both let it all hang out as tired as both were with Chisora out, landing Parker to take the round.
Scores were 115-110, 115-111, and 114-112. This writer had it 115-111.

In the co-feature IBO World Super Middleweight champion southpaw Carlos Gongora, 20-1 (15), #168, of Ecuador and Boston, MASS, lost by split decision to southpaw Lerrone “Sniper the Boss” Richards, 16-0 (3), #167 1/2, of New Malden, London, UK, over 12 rounds.

In the third round, the challenge of who had the best jab continued with Richards having an edge. In the sixth round’s final minute, a right uppercut to the chin from Richards rocked Gongora. In the eighth round, both boxers had their moments. Gongora had one of his better rounds. In the tenth round, it was close with Richards going to the body with uppercuts.

In the twelfth and final round, both boxers were near exhaustion as it looked like Richards may have pulled off an upset.

Scores were 116-112 Gongora with 115-113 twice for Richards. This writer had it 114-114.

Super Featherweight Zelfa “Brown Flash” Barrett, 27-1 (16), #129 ½, of Manchester, Lancashire, UK, defeated southpaw Bruno “Vifuaviwili” Tarimo, 26-3-2 (5), #128 ½, of Tanzania and Southport, Queensland, AUST, over 12 rounds.

In the third round, a left hook to the head from Barrett dropped Tarimo for an 8-count from referee Steve Gray midway through the round. Tarimo managed to get to the end of the round. In the fifth round, Barrett had a big round outworking Tarmino.

In the sixth through the ninth rounds, Tarmino did the chasing, and Barrett the countering. In the tenth round, Tarmino continued trying to get inside of the taller Barrett, but when he did, it was Barrett landing uppercuts to the midsection of Tarmino.

In the twelfth and final round, Barrett used the ring well as the smaller Tarmino knew he needed a knockout to win and did well until the last seconds when Barrett landed a combination to the chin at the bell.

Scores were 117-110 twice and 116-111.

Super Middleweight Jack ‘Little Lever’s Meat Cleaver” Cullen, 20-3-1 (9), #167 1/2, of Little Lever, Lancashire, UK, was knocked out by Kevin “The Phenomen” Lele Sadjo, 17-0 (15), #167 ½, of Saint-Maur, Val-de-Marne, FR, at 1:11 of the sixth round, for the vacant EBU European Super Middleweight title, in a scheduled 12.

In the first round, the much taller Cullen used an effective jab to keep Sadjo at bay. In the final seconds, Sadjo landed a combination to the body and then the head. In the second round, Cullen came into Sadjo, causing a clash of heads, with Cullen coming out of it with a cut on his left eyebrow. Sadjo would get inside with his head on the chest of Cullen at times due to the difference in height.

In the third round, Sadjo kept up the pressure working the body of Cullen. Cullen ended up strong in the final seconds, using a steady amount of jabs to the chin of Sadjo. In the fourth round, a looping overhand right from Sadjo bounced off the head of Cullen at the beginning of the round. At times Cullen would come in low, giving up his height advantage.

In the fifth round, it was Sadjo coming forward, pushing Cullen back with overhand rights when he got close inside. In the sixth round, Cullen was pushing Sadjo back when he got hit with a wicked left to the ribs and down went Cullen doubling up for the full count by referee John Latham.

Heavyweight Alen ”The Savage” Babic, 10-0 (10), #216, of Zagreb, Croatia, knocked out southpaw David Spilmont, 11-8-1 (7), #252, of Saint-Michel, Aisne, FR, at 0:53 of the sixth round of a scheduled 8.

In the second round, the slugfest continued into the final seconds when a right followed by a left on the chin of Babic from Spilmont almost dropped Savage having him hurt.

In the fourth round, a three-punch combination to the chin from Babic and down went Spilmont for an 8-count with a minute remaining in the round but managed to get to the end.

In the sixth round, both were trading blows when Babic landed a four-punch combination on the chin and down went Spilmont to his knees, taking the full count.
