Andre Ward: ‘Caleb Plant is more than ready [to beat Canelo], be careful’

By Chris Williams: Andre Ward says IBF super middleweight champion Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant is more than ready for his November 6th fight against Canelo Alvarez on FOX Sports PPV.

This fight will give boxing fans an indication of how Ward would have done against Canelo had he stuck around to face him.

They would have fought if Canelo had moved up to 168 when Ward was still active with his career, but unfortunately, he waited too long before moving up.

That said, if Plant can beat Canelo, that would give fans a good indication of what Ward would have done with him. Too much mind power with Ward.

Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) is working with the former super middleweight champion Ward to evolve his game to get him ready to send Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) down to his second career defeat at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

After working with Plant for a short while, Ward likes what he sees in his dedication had his mindset. This is someone ready to keep improving his game and defeat the Mexican superstar Canelo.

Plant has the Floyd Mayweather Jr. style of fighting, which gave Canelo absolute fits in 2013 when he took on the star.

Ward: Plant is more than ready

With Canelo, you got to not only beat him but do it in such a decisive way that the judges don’t rob you. Even Mayweather failed to get unanimous after one of the judges, CJ Ross, scored it 114-114.

“I’m retired, but Caleb Plant is more than ready [for Canelo]. Be careful,” said Andre Ward on social media.

Canelo will need to fight a lot better against ‘Sweethands’ Plant if he wants to win this fight compared to what we’ve seen lately from him. The way Canelo fought against Billy Joe Saunders, Avni Yildirim, Callum Smith, and Sergey Kovalev won’t work against Plant, and he’s too talented.

He’s [Caleb Plant] dedicated to the sport. So when I saw that, I got a lot of respect for this dude,”  said Ward.

“Then I saw him perform at a high level, and that gave me even more respect for him. Then I heard him talk. Man, I love the mentality, and I can relate.

“He’s in evolution as a fighter, and he’s in the process of evolving. The best rise to the top,” said Ward.

I totally agree with Mr. Ward. Plant is on another level with his mentality and his professionalism. He’s ticking every box in showing the ingredients needed for him to rip the WBA, WBC & WBO 168-lb titles away from Canelo on November 6th, leaving him beltless.

“Pressure does two things to people. It’s either going to crush you and immobilize you and have you unable to perform, or it’s going to push you to be great. I think it’s going to push Caleb to be great,” said Ward.
