By Allan Fox: The viral Youtuber turned boxer Jake Paul will be battling tonight against former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in the main event on Showtime pay-per-view in an eight round fight at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

Fans want to see Jake Paul get knocked out

Will Woodley hand the self-important Jake the first loss of his career tonight? There are many boxing fans that are eager to see Jake get obliterated by Woodley, who they are pinning their hopes to put the YouTuber in his place once and for all.

Jake Paul (3-0, 3 KOs) is taking his biggest career test in facing one of the best sluggers in the history of UFC in 40-year-old Woodley. It’s a match that the cruiserweight Paul could very well lose Woodley can drag him into the deeper rounds.

Thus far, none of Jake’s three previous fights have made it past the second round, and for a good reason.

His opposition has been woeful at best, with him facing a washed-up former UFC fighter Ben Askren, a former NBA player Nate Robinson, and a fellow YouTuber, Ali Eson Gib.

With that type of soft opposition, it’s impossible to know for a certainty how much talent Jake possesses because he hasn’t fought anyone of note yet.

Tonight’s fight will be a MAJOR step up in class for the 24-year-old Jake Paul, making it impossible to know if he’ll be able to get through this match without suffering his first career defeating.

This isn’t a YouTuber, former basketball player, or a pot-bellied washed-up former MMA fighter that Jake Paul is taking on tonight.

Woodley is one of the best strikers in the history of the UFC, and he’s got the boxing ability & punching power to potentially separate Jake from his senses early in this fight if he’s able to land his shots.

With a victory over Jake tonight, it would open the door potentially for Woodley to face the likes of Logan Paul, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and many other fighters or social media influencers that will want to get a piece of the action.

Jake has is going to beat, as he’s got world-class punching power in both hands. Paul may not be coming from a background in boxing, but he’s got the power to make him a heat to anyone in the sport.

Start time & fight date – Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley

The start time for the Paul vs. Woodley fight event is approximately 10:30 p.m. ET. The action begins on the fight card at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Whether the Jake – Woodley fight starts at 10:30 p.m. will depend largely on how long the undercard fights go. If we see many fights that go the distance in the preliminary bouts, the Jake vs. Woodley fight start time may be after 10:30 p.m. ET.

And the date of the Paul – Woodley fight is on Sunday, August 29.

Jake Paul has come out of nowhere to take boxing by storm since scoring a thunderous first round knockout win over YouTuber Ali Eson Gib last year in January 2020 in his pro debut.

The fight that made a name for Jake was his second round knockout of former NBA all-star Nate Robinson on the undercard of the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. exhibition match last November in Los Angeles, California.

In Jake’s last fight, he destroyed his first credible opponent in stopping former UFC superstar Ben Askren in the first round in Atlanta. No one expected Jake to score a knockout over Askren, not even his brother Logan Paul.

Paul vs. Woodley fight card event:

  • Amanda Serrano vs. Yamileth Mercado
  • Tommy Fury vs. Anthony Taylor – light heavyweight bout

Woodley’s losses have come against these fighters:

  • Kamaru Usman
  • Gilbert Burns
  • Colby Covington
  • Vincente Luque

There’s no shame in Woodley getting beaten by those fighters, as they’re all a talented bunch and younger than him. Moreover, they started with MMA, unlike Woodley, who came from an amateur wrestling background and had to transition to MMA.

That’s not easy to do, obviously, as many former amateur wrestlers have discovered.

The bad blood between Jake Paul and Woodley started last April when Tyron confronted Jake in his dressing room when he fought Ben Askren.

Woodley took issue with some of the things that Jake had said, and he was defending his fellow UFC fighter Askren. After Jake and Woodley trash-talked each other, fans wanted to see them battle it out in a boxing ring.

Jake Paul vs. Woodley will be taking place at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, an excellent location for this fight. Ohio is where Jake was born 24 years ago, although he now lives in a mansion in Calabasas, California.

It’s a tough ask for the 40-year-old Woodley to try and deal with the much younger, stronger, and heavier Jake Paul.

The 5’9″ Woodley weighs in the neighborhood of 170 lbs, and he’ll be giving away over 20 lbs in weight and four inches in height to the 6’1″ Jake in this fight.

Many boxing and MMA fans aren’t aware that Woodley has lost his last four fights in the UFC. Woodley’s last victory was three years ago in 2018, when he defeated Darren Till in UFC 228.
