Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia = ‘Biggest fight in the world’ – says Leonard Ellerbe

By Matt Lieberman: Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe says a match between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia is the “biggest fight in the world” right now, and he’s interested in making it happen.

If Ellerbe and Mayweather Promotions make the fight for Gervonta, they need to do it soon. Ryan isn’t messing around, as he wants to fight the best in the sport.

With Ryan’s courageous gambling approach to picking high-level opposition, he could lose. It will be a disappointment for Gervonta, Ellerbe, and Mayweather Promotions if they don’t set up the fight with King Ryan while his record is still unblemished.

This is a fight that Ryan wants before the end of the year, and he’s already let his millions of followers know he wants Tank. Ryan previously predicted a second-round knockout victory over Gervonta, who he feels is made to order for him.

There’s a lot of curious boxing fans about who Tank Davis (25-0, 24 KOs) will fight next after he put on a show last Saturday night with his eleventh round knockout win over WBA ‘regular’ light welterweight champion Mario Barrios (26-1, 17 KOs) in Atlanta.

The fans want to see Tank fight Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, or Vasily Lomachenko. Not surprisingly, Ellerbe wants to give the boxing public want they want to see because he knows it will help Gervonta increase his popularity by facing those kinds of fighters.

Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) had some anxiety issues recently that caused him to cancel his July 9th fight against Javier Fortuna. But Ryan has now licked that problem, and he’s ready to get back in action.

It’s not a big deal that the Fortuna fight didn’t happen because that was a match that wouldn’t have done a whole lot for Ryan Garcia’s career.

“The biggest fight in the world is Tank and Ryan Garcia, hands down,” said Leonard Ellerbe to Fino Boxing.

“Yeah, I’m confident that fights going to happen. Ryan Garcia stepped away because he has some personal issues he’s taking care of, but I’m confident that fight will happen in the future,” said Ellerbe.

As you can see, Ellerbe isn’t sure when the fight between Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis will be made. It’s in Tank’s best interest to fight Ryan now because his promoters need to keep his value high.

Floyd Mayweather Jr has some wacky ideas about taking a protectionist approach to Davis’ career, which could backfire, causing his popularity to deteriorate.

“I can’t give you a timetable, but that fight will happen. I think it’ll happen sooner than later,” said Ellerbe about when Davis will fight Ryan Garcia.

“Ryan Garcia, he’s a very smart young man, he knows how to work social media, he has a very solid fanbase.

“I think one day down the road, him and Tank will eventually come together, and it’ll be the biggest fight in the world, I guarantee that.

“Tank Davis knocks him out,” said Ellerbe when asked what the outcome is for the Gervonta vs. Ryan Garcia clash.
