Wilder on Fury: ‘I want to do more than knock him out’

By Charles Brun: Deontay Wilder says he wants to do more than “just knock out” Tyson Fury on July 24th. The former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) appears to be hinting that he wants a body on his record when he looks to avenge his loss to Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) in their fight on pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Oh man, Wilder looks and sounds like he wants to do bodily harm to the 6’9″ Fury on the night. Hopefully, if anything happens, a quality referee works on the night that halts the fight right away rather than looking foolish as he counts while Fury is unconscious.

We already saw that happen in the first fight when Wilder knocked Fury out cold, and the referee unbelievably gave a count. I’m still wondering what that was all about.

Deontay sent a letter of intent to Fury

During Tuesday’s press conference in Los Angeles, Wilder looked deadly serious during his face-off with Fury, staring at the sheepish-looking Brit for a full five minutes to get his message across to him and the boxing public on what he has in store for him.

Wilder had a look on his face like he really wants to do a job on Fury. Charles Brun has seen that look before, and man, it always ends badly for the recipient.

Fury looked saddened when the two were staring. One got the sense from watching that Fury was unhappy at what awaits for him next month.

For a moment there, Wilder looked like he was ready to topple Fury over with one of his laser-guided right hands to the head. It would have been bad if Wilder had blasted Fury on his lantern jaw, sending him crashing to the floor in front of the shocked media.

There wouldn’t have been anything to stop Wilder if he chose to do that, as it was just him and Fury standing alone at the front of the stage.

It’s good that Wilder didn’t take it to that level because if he’d knocked Fury out, the fight would likely have needed to be postponed to allow Tyson to recover from the blow slowly.

Wilder hinting he wants a body

“I want to do more than just knock him out,” said Wilder to ESNEWS on what he plans on doing against Fury. “People know what I talk about.

“I think this is the man to feed my craving of wanting one particular thing. If you’re a fan and you have been keeping up with me, you know what I’m talking about,” said Wilder in dropping a huge hint.

Wilder sounds scary with him talking about wanting to feed his craving. Hopefully, nothing happens to Fury on July 24th. He’s a good fighter, and it would be not very pleasant if this is the end of Fury.

It’s hard to forget the image of Wilder knocking Fury out cold from their first fight. Fury was sound asleep for a long time after that shot.

With the referee heading the opposite direction after Wilder knocked Fury out, you can argue that gave him an extra two seconds that he needed to beat the count.

I mean, there shouldn’t have been a count in the first place in Charles Brun’s view because Fury was unconscious. How does a referee give a count to a knockout fighter? It was unreal.

“I’m going to let him do the circus, let him promote,” said Wilder about why he chose not to speak during the press conference.

“If you’ve kept up with me, you already know how I feel. So less talk, more action from me. I didn’t come here to play around. “But now I’m going to let him do his thing and see how entertaining he will be.

“I couldn’t hear nothing. I didn’t want to hear nothing. It ain’t nothing new for me to hear. I’ve already got what I’m going to do stuck in my head, and I’m looking forward to it,” said Wilder.

Well, Wilder might as well let Fury do all the talking because he’s like a stand-up comedian in his element when he’s on stage. It would be like trying to stop Jim Carrey from performing.
