Regis Prograis says he would relish a showdown with Gervonta Davis but is doubtful whether his team would agree to the fight.

Prograis has been linked to a clash with the two-weight world champion, ‘Tank’ Davis, over the last few months, after the pair shared a twitter exchange predicting the outcome of a future meeting.

Davis attempts to become a three-weight world champion on June 26 when he moves up to Prograis’s division to challenge WBA ‘Regular’ champion Mario Barrios in Atlanta, and the 32-year-old admits he is backing him to dethrone Barrios before facing him.

“They make weight classes for a reason,” Prograis told Pro Boxing Fans.

“Listen, don’t get me wrong, Tank has a lot of power, he’s a very talented fighter, he has a lot of power, but he’s 5ft 4.

“I really think I hurt him, and I really hope that he beats Mario [Barrios].

“Not saying nothing against Barrios, but honestly, I’m not too high on Barrios; I don’t rate him too highly at all.

“But I hope he beats him convincingly because then he’ll have the confidence to go up to 140 and maybe try and fight me, but if he struggles with Barrios, then he’s not going to want to fight me at all.

“I hope that he beats him convincingly, even maybe knock Barrios out, because then he’ll have the confidence at 140 to be like, ‘oh, I knocked Barrios out, I can go mess with Prograis or whoever.’

“I would love that fight. That fight is taking place next month, so maybe three or four months after that, maybe me and him can do it, and we can go from there.”

In a recent interview with FighHype.com, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said that both himself and Tank liked the prospect of fighting Prograis, whilst Floyd Mayweather Jr was “ecstatic” about the fight. However, the former 140lbs champion is less convinced.

“I was surprised to hear [Ellerbe say that],” Prograis added.

“But I think it’s all b*******; I’m not going to lie. I don’t think they’re going to let Tank nowhere close to me.

“They can say all they want but actions they speak way louder than words, so we’ll see.

“Let’s see what he does with Barrios first and like I say, if he can walk through Barrios and really destroy Barrios, they’re going to be confident of putting him in there with me because they’re going to think ‘Barrios is big and he went through Barrios,’ and they’ll be confident of putting him in there with me.

“But, if he struggles with Barrios, they definitely won’t want to come f****** with me.”
