Mayweather brawl explodes after Jake Paul snatches Floyd’s cap

By Matt Lieberman: Floyd Mayweather Jr went absolutely nuts on Thursday when Logan Paul’s arguably more talented brother Jake Paul snatched Floyd’s baseball cap off his head and dashed away after they were jawing at each other.

At one point, it looked like Jake tagged one of the people in the crowd with an overhand right when they going after him. Whoever it was, they backed off quickly after Jake unloaded.

Was this a staged brawl by Jake and Floyd?

What we at Boxing News 24 don’t know if this was a carefully staged move on Mayweather and Jake’s part to help pump up the pay-per-view buys for Floyd’s June 6th exhibition match against YouTuber Logan Paul on Showtime pay-per-view.

As a result, if today’s exchange between Mayweather and Jake was a theatrical piece, it may have helped the June 6th event.

Unfortunately, Mayweather, Logan, and Jake will need to do a lot more of these types of brawls if they want to bring in the PPV buys to the 4 million+ marks that we saw in Floyd’s fights with Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao.

It was a priceless move on the YouTuber Jake’s part, as it sent the 44-year-old Mayweather into a rage to get back his cap. You’d think it was expensive $200 hate instead of what appeared to be a cheap baseball cap.

Mayweather ran after Jake, and it’s unclear if punches were thrown or not. A lot of pushing shoving, and Mayweather looked like he apoplectic over the incident.

However, the last thing Mayweather needed was to get hit by Jake, as he’s a lot bigger, stronger, and younger than the middle-aged former six-division world champion.

It was hard to recognize Mayweather with hair on his head rather than his usual bald dome. That was a little jarring, I must say. It didn’t look like Mayweather and didn’t sound like him either with his voice sounding hoarse.

Jake has to be careful if he’s going to be snatching Mayweather’s apparel because you never know who in the crowd might start going after him to defend their hero. What Jake doesn’t need is to be pounded on by six or seven Mayweather fans at one while he’s trying to get away with a keepsake cap or whatever.

Lost in all of this is Mayweather’s actual opponent for June 6th, Logan Paul. Why wasn’t he the one that was doing to cap-snatching instead of Jake?

Obviously, this brawl will help set up an exhibition match later this year between Mayweather and Jake Paul. That’s a given. Jake is the one that Mayweather SHOULD be fighting now instead of Logan, who has zero talent for boxing, as we saw in his loss to fellow YouTuber KSI in 2019.

Jake is 3-0 as a pro, and he has legitimate one-punch knockout power that is worthy of anyone in the cruiserweight division.

If Mayweather is going to fight Jake, he’s going to have to build him down with a catch-weight and rehyration clause because he’s not going to want to get hit by this guy.
