Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren – fighter predictions for Saturday
By Matt Lieberman: Youtuber Jake Paul (2-0, 2 KOs) will be attempting to keep his unbeaten record perfect when he takes on UFC fighter Ben Askren in an eight-round fight this Saturday night April 17th on Triller pay-per-view at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia.
Despite getting a late start in boxing, Jake, 24, has a natural ability for the sport that most don’t have. Jake is not only bigger, younger and and stronger puncher, but he’s made for the sport than Askren.
This fight will be a traditional boxer vs. ex-wrestler match, those types of fights tend to go badly for the wrestlers.
Paul vs. Askren is sharing the card with the Regis Prograis vs. Ivan Redkach in a 10 round fight. This fight is expected to be a mismatch, though, as Redkach is a journeyman-level fighter.
“Man, Ben, you better whoop his a**. I’m on Ben’s side, yeah,” said Teofimo Lopez to Mayweather Boxing Channel.
“Jake Paul because he trains hard,” said Rolly Romero in picking Jake over Askren. “I got Jake Paul.”
Gabriel Flores Jr.
“I got Jake Paul by fourth-round knockout. Why? Because I saw the way he knocked out Nate Robinson. I don’t know much about him. I’m just predicting a fourth-round knockout.
“Seventh round knockout. He cries like Jeff says.”
“That’s bull s***. I hope Ben kicks his a***, I hope beats him. It pisses me off to see these YouTubers come in and get this amount of money after we work so hard and do what we do, and we have a long line of history.
“They should stick to fighting each other instead of coming into our game. If not, fight a real fighter. Fight somebody who is a real boxer and who can really throw punches. Let’s see how long they last.”
“I lean slightly towards Jake Paul. I think that he can box long enough where he should win, but I give Askren a slight chance. I mean, it’s hard to learn boxing in 12 weeks. I think I have to go with Jake Paul.”
“I see Jake Paul training hard, but obviously this guy [Ben Askren] has got a lot of experience. He’s fighting a guy that has been in the gym and been in the martial mixed arts, but I think he’s going to get beat up.”
Teofimo Lopez Sr.
“I don’t know anything about UFC fighters. I don’t know about UFC, but we’re getting into the business now. I don’t care who’s behind us [Teofimo Lopez Jr vs. George Kambosos Jr].
“We’re the main event. Like I told my son. We’re not fighting any YouTubers, and we’re going to be the main event. We got to be the main event, and I don’t care who else fights.
“They got a lot of ideas for this fight, but it’s going to be a tremendous show. I think Jake Paul is going to take it because the other guy is just, he goes to the ground and he doesn’t have any expertise in boxing. So I think Jake is going to take it.”
“I’m going with Jake Paul. It’s beautiful match-making. They got a kid that is learning how to fight kind of good, and they say, ‘How can we get a guy that is credible?
“We don’t want to get a legit boxer, so let’s get an old guy, who’s real background is wrestling, who’s smaller, older, coming off. Well, that helps him,” Zittel said when told by Mayweather that Jake fights only smaller guys.
“My thing is with Askren defensively. What is he going to do to get out of the way of punch? I don’t think he’s going to do too much. He’s going to get hit by the younger, bigger guy who’s into boxing right now. I got Jake Paul by knockout.”
