Jake Paul dares Canelo to fight Benavidez, Charlo, Ward & Andrade

By Sean Jones: Jake Paul really let Canelo Alvarez have it on Wednesday in daring him to fight the top guys like David Benavidez, and ripping into him about his decision to face the over-matched underdog Avni Yildirim last Saturday night.

Jake Paul wants Canelo to fight these talents:

  • David Benavidez
  • Andre Ward
  • Demetrius Andrade
  • Caleb Plant

Jake left out a few that Sean Jones would like to see Canelo fight as well, and they are as follows:

  • Artur Beterbiev
  • Dimitry Bivol
  • Edgar Berlanga
  • Jean Pascal
  • Bektemir Melikuziev
  • David Morrell

If you’re looking for pure quality opposition for Canelo to fight, you can’t go wrong with those two lists. Of those fighters, Plant is on the margin, and not quite good enough to give Canelo a real test.

Benavidez, Bivol, Andrade, Ward, Bully Melikuziev, Berlanga nd Beterbiev are ideal opponents for Canelo.

Alvarez needs to face better opposition

If you’re DAZN, those are the type of guys you want Canelo to be fighting, not Billy Joe Saunders, Yildirim or Callum Smith.

WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Canelo said he had to take the fight with Yildirim, his WBC mandatory, or else he’d be stripped. However, World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman said this week that Canelo wanted to fight Yildirim and that he didn’t have to because he’s the Franchise champion.

Canelo could have used the Franchise title and save himself the criticism that he’s received for facing such a terribly poor opponent in Yildirim.

Youtuber Jake Paul has an issue with Canelo over things he’s said in the past, and he also didn’t like the way he kicked out of the ring two kids last Saturday night that was wearing Paul vs. Ben Askren t-shirts.

Jake views Canelo as a “straight hater,” and he says his pay is going down while he is increasing his own.

It’s unclear if this is true, but if so, it might have something to do with Canelo’s choice of opponents.

Alvarez could make a lot of money if he took on Gennadiy Golovkin in a rematch, and yet he’s chosen not to do so. That’s hard for the average hard-working fan to try and understand someone that chooses not to try and make the most money possible, but it’s complicated.

If Canelo were to take the risky fights against Golovkin, Benavidez, Jermall Charlo, Demetrius Andrade, and Andre Ward, as Jake Paul wants him to, he’d probably lose to some of them.

Once that happens, Canelo wouldn’t be the big star any longer. He’d be the washed-up one, who fans would likely say was doing it all on smoke & mirrors all these years, thanks to his careful match-making.

Jake sends Canelo a message

“Haters who are supposed to be the biggest draw in boxing but can’t even fulfill their contract because the media company wasn’t making a return on its investment,” said Jake Paul on Instagram in criticizing Canelo Alvarez.

“-5000 favorite to win because they take on fighters [Avni Yildirim] who have not fought in two years and no one in the US has ever heard of…test positive for steroids…Canelo Alvarez.

“I’m two years into this sport, [and] you have been at it for 18 years, yet my pay going up and yours is going down. Focus on you and your brand and keep my name out of your mouth, and in a few years, maybe I’ll give you a chance to increase your pay again.

“Until then, step up and fight guys like @twincharlo , @calebplant , @benavidez300, @boobooandrade , and the legend @andresogward.”
