By Brad Marchetti: Despite the Covid-19 epidemic M & R Boxing Promotions in Miami keeps cranking out exciting fight cards. Late Friday night from the Media Pro Studios a host of hungry South Florida prospects slugged it out as they move up the ranks in the Sunshine State.

Top-20 bantamweight contender Melvin Lopez, 25-1, 16 KO’s, displayed lightning hand speed and refined skill in a 1st round wipeout of Samuel Gutierrez, 16-31-6, 6 KO’s.

The 23-year old Nicaraguan “Melo” Lopez has plenty of upside and could be in a title fight in the near future.

Undefeated Turkish lightweight prospect Otar Eranosyan, 7-0, 5 KO’s, crumpled Mexican survivor Marco Mendoza, 11-10-1, 7 KO’s, via 2nd round stoppage.

The well-decorated amateur Eranosyan, 27, stalked Mendoza with his seek and destroy style before dismantling the defensive-minded Mendoza on the ropes with a barrage of punches.

26-year old Jr. Lightweight prospect Mark Bernaldez, 22-4, 16 KO’s, was given all he could handle from Mexican gatekeeper Hector Ambriz Suarez, 12-13-2, 6 KO’s, in a 6th round knockout win.

Suarez didn’t read the memo that he was the opponent and went toe-to-toe with his shorter and smaller opponent from the outset.

A closer look at Suarez’s record reveals a high caliber of opponents that make his record deceiving. In the 6th round a looping right-hand rocket to temple short-circuited Suarez and dropped him like a bag of rocks.

Suarez bravely beat the count but the referee wisely called a halt to the action with the beaten Suarez on rubbery legs.

26-year old Honduran lightweight Josec Ruiz, 22-4-3, 15 KO’s, dropped stocky journeyman Rodolfo Puente on his face with a lead-fisted right hand for a 2nd round stoppage.

Ruiz has never been stopped and is a durable puncher that can hurt most lightweights if he can hit them on the chin.

Undefeated Cuban super-bantamweight prospect Jorge Romero, 20-0-1, 13 KO’s, was given a tussle against hard-hitting Colombian Yeison Vargas, 17-6, 12 KO’s, in a hard-earned 8-round decision win.

Final scores read 79-73, 79-73 and 78-74 all for Romero but this boxing scribe had things a bit tighter at 77-75 for Romero. The 27-year old Romero was a little slicker and accurate also displaying a good chin to shake off some right-hand fastballs from Vargas.

Undefeated 19-year old Cuban prospect Frank Diaz, 5-0, 4 KO’s executed his usual brand of southpaw aggression to notch a 1st round knockout against Matias Arrigada, 6-9, 3 KO’s.

The speedy southpaw from Hialeah, FL picked his shots and finished Arriaga with class. Diaz is well trained by experienced coach Jorge Rubio and has looked better every time I have seen him.

Light Heavyweights: Isaac Carbonell (3-0, 2 KO’s) KO1 Ernesto Berrospe (11-16, 6 KO’s)

Junior Middleweight: Eduardo Diaz (10-0-1, 5 KO’s) UD6 Javier Garcia (8-19-1 3 KO’s)
