Ryan Garcia: ‘Fight to be announced real soon,’ Tank surprised

By Pete Strauss: Ryan Garcia posted on social media today saying that his next fight will be announced “real soon,” and that took Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis by surprise because he’s unaware of them having made their fight yet.

Ryan then lectured Tank, telling him to make a phone call to find out what’s happening. The question is, does Tank (24-0, 23 KOs) not know what’s going on with his management at Mayweather Promotions?

If the Tank Davis fight isn’t happening next for the unbeaten lightweight contender ‘King’ Ryan (21-0, 18 KOs), it’ll be interesting to see who Golden Boy Promotions matches him against.

With all the talking that Ryan did following his win over Luke Campbell on January 2nd, he’s going to need a big name for his next fight. That was a WBC 135-lb title eliminator to pick a mandatory for champion Devin Haney.

Is Ryan Garcia jumping the gun?

Tank Davis: “You must know some s**t I don’t.”

Ryan: “You’re a grown man, make a call and find out.”

Tank: Say less, B***! I’m ready to get in camp.”

Ryan Garcia: “Can’t wait for my next fight. Really is a dream. God is Good.”

Besides Tank, Ryan Garcia has been talking about wanting to fight Manny Pacquiao. Could it be Manny that he could be facing next rather than Tank Davis?

That would explain why Tank has no clue what Ryan is talking about when he says the fight will be “announced real soon.

Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) is said to be thinking of fighting Conor McGregor, but that guy isn’t going to be available for awhile. If Pacquiao wants to get back in the ring by May or June, Ryan Garcia is his best option.

It would very interesting if Pacquiao were to swoop in and take the Ryan Garcia fight out from under Tank and Mayweather Promotion’s nose for the first half of this year.

If Ryan gets beaten by Pacquiao, which would likely be the result of a fight between them, Tank won’t get nearly as much money fighting him.

Pacquiao can make good money by fighting Ryan Garcia right now, and then taking on Conor McGregor in the second half of 2021. That would be an idea year for Pacquiao if he can get both of those fights.

The only other names for Ryan to fight at 135 that boxing fans would be interested in seeing him fight are these guys:

  • Jorge Linares
  • Teofimo Lopez
  • Vasyl Lomachenko
  • Rolando Romero

Ryan likely wouldn’t fight Lomachenko, and Linares would be too risky for him to face on the back of his last performance.
