By Jeff Aronow: Lightweight contender Ryan Garcia is predicting a 2nd round knockout over WBA ‘regular’ 135-lb champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis when he meets up with him. The undefeated highly ranked Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) took to social media to predict a stoppage of Tank Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) to some of his many followers.

Garcia pushing Tank Davis to fight him

Ryan, 21, says he’s only giving Davis one round before he looks to put him to sleep in the 2nd round. The two fighters aren’t scheduled to fight each other or anything, but Ryan is exerting a lot of pressure on Tank Davis on social media to try and get him to give him a title shot.

In the last three days, Garci has been calling Davis out on social media, and telling fans he wants to take his title. Currently, the popular Golden Boy promoted Garcia is ranked #2 with the World Boxing Association.

Garcia has knocked out his last two opponents Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca in the 1st round. Before that, Ryan stopped Jose Lopez in round 2 and Braulio Rodriguez in the 5th.

Ryan Garcia: I’m giving Gervonta just one round

“That’s 135, pure muscle,” said Ryan Garcia via Fighthype. “Your boy 135, let’s go. The guy [Gervonta Davis] said I was a ‘Lil Dude.’ I’m going to predict my fight with Gervonta Davis right now. Are you ready for this? I want 10,000 thumbs up before I give my prediction just so that I know you guys are coherent and ready to hear this.

“I’m being a little dramatic, but I need to know you guys are ready to hear this prediction. I come in and step up to him. Gervonta likes to start off kind of fast. He’s going to try and come up on me, and I’m going to use my distance on him. I’m going to tap him a little bit and make him feel.

“Gervonta is feeling me a little bit. Now he gets a little crazy. I start playing with him. It’s the end of the first round. I go back to my corner. He gets one round in. That’s all I’m going to give him, one round,” said Garcia on Tank Davis.

Tank angered Ryan this week in calling him ‘Lil dude’ on social media. He probably wasn’t talking so much about the 5’10” Ryan’s height, but rather his age and his lack of experience. The 5’5 1/2″ southpaw Davis is a lot shorter than Garcia, but he’s built like a tank and powerful.

Davis has been compared to Mike Tyson with the power he has. Recently, Tank tested with more with his left hand than heavyweight Dominic Breazeale on a punching machine.

Gervonta Davis is getting put to sleep in round 2 – Ryan Garcia

“He feels the power in one round. He says, ‘Damn, I don’t know what to do right now. I’ve got to come out,” said Ryan Garcia. ‘”I can’t look like a b—-‘ So the second round comes in. I get up off the stool. Now I’m feeling it. I fake the right and shoot the hook, come back with the uppercut and then I’m done. I then relax because that’s not the right time. And then he tries to bend down because he’s going to try and change the angle on me.

“He’s going to bend down. Mark my words right here. The second round, it’s over, he’s gone. He goes for the upper like he always does. Bang! ‘Gervonta Davis is out cold! He’s gone. Ryan Garcia shocked the world. It is over. It’s done. A second-round gone.’

“I’m generous for giving him two,” said Ryan on Tank Davis. “I think I’m very generous for giving him two. I’m very generous because that might happen in the first. He might get a little too crazy, but I think he’ll be extra cautious. He’s not going to want to walk into it. Like I said, second-round KO. Gone!” said Ryan on Tank.

If Ryan knocks Tank Davis out, it would be a shock to many boxing fans around the world. It wouldn’t matter what round Ryan stopped Gervonta. Just the fact of him knocking him out would be a major surprise to boxing fans.

Tank wants Ryan to pump the brakes right now, and wait a while before the two of them fight. Right now, the fight wouldn’t be as big as it would later on down the road.

Tank Davis has recent wins over:

  • Yuriorkis Gamboa

Ryan wants Tank Davis to be OK after he KOs him

“Gervonta Davis is asleep. I pray for him as well. I want him to be OK,” said Garcia. He’s not getting up. I” don’t hate Gervonta Davis. I don’t at all, and I think he’s a great fighter. I’m just better, and I’m here to prove it. So there you go, guys. You heard it here first.

I hope someone recorded it. So post it on Twitter, post it on Instagram. Let everyone know because when the time comes and I do exactly what I said, I want everybody to come back to this video. They’re going to be saying, ‘Ryan, you said second but it happened in the third,” said Ryan Garcia on predicting an early stoppage of Tank Davis.

It might help Ryan hurry up the process of getting a fight against Tank Davis by trash-talking him, but it would be better for him to build interest in a different way. Ryan needs to start beating better opposition like Jorge Linares, who his promoters at Golden Boy want him to fight.

It doesn’t look good that Garcia’s dad Henry Garcia is starting to sound wishy-washy on the idea of taking the fight. He says the 34-year-old Linares is too old, but he’s still a better fighter than the guys that Ryan has been fighting.

Garcia is being positioned to take on the winner of the Javier Fortuna vs. Luke Campbell fight. Those two are fighting for the vacant WBC lightweight title. However, Devin Haney, WBC Champion in Recess, also wants to take on the Fortuna-Campbell winner.
