By Barry Holbrook: Queensbury Promotions are saying that next month’s Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce is still taking place on the originally scheduled date of April 11 at the O2 Arena in London despite the numerous postponements of other fight cards due to the COVID 19 outbreak.

The government and British Boxing Board of Control will ultimately be the ones that decide whether the Dubois vs. Joyce fight goes ahead on the 11th of April. They haven’t stopped the fight card yet, and perhaps they won’t.

As of now, the Dubois-Joyce fight is still on. One thing that it has going for it is the fact the fight scheduled for April, not March. The many fights that were postponed earlier on Wednesday are contests that are taking place in March. With the Dubois vs. Joyce fight still a month away, they haven’t been affected yet. If next month the fight takes place, we see other contests take place.

“The O2 remains fully open as usual and events scheduled at The O2 arena are currently going ahead. Should this change, we will communicate details to visitors and ticket holders as soon as possible,” said a spokesman for the O2 in a news release.

Only a “few tickets” remain for the Dubois vs. Joyce fight at the O2 Arena, and that’s not surprising. It’s a HUGE fight and it’s going to be filled with fireworks from start to finish.

For the boxing fans that doubt the O2 will be filled on April 11, they don’t realize how big of a fight this is. There’s a tremendous amount of interest from people in the Dubois-Joyce fight, and wouldn’t be surprising if the fight sells out well ahead of April 11.

Joyce (10-0, 9 KOs) and Dubois will be fighting for the British and EBU heavyweight titles on April 11. This is a fight that has been long anticipated by boxing fans, who see the winner of this match as a future world champion Dubois, 22, seen as the favorite but an upset is certainly possible.

Joyce is a huge guy at 6’6,” 255 lbs, and has heavy hands and a steel chin. In 2016, Joyce captured an Olympic silver medal for Great Britain. Some boxing fans feel that Joyce deserved the gold medal in that competition.

The 6’5″, 240-lb Dubois has been steamrolling over his competition in his last five fights, and he looks like he’s getting better with each content. In his last five matches, he’s stopped these fighters:

  • Kyotaro Fujimoto
  • Nathan Gorman
  • Ebenezer Tetteh
  • Richard Lartey
  • Razvan Cojanu

Dubois has got a lot of power and a great jab that he’s been using to obliterate his opposition. What we don’t know is how good Dubois’ stamina is because he’s knocking everybody so quickly. If Joyce is able to make it into the second half of the fight, he’s got a shot at testing Dubois’ stamina and chin.
