Has Fury played Wilder?

By Gavin Howie: After Deontay Wilder has come in at a career-high weight of 231lbs for tonight’s mega rematch with Tyson Fury, I am more confident than ever that this has completely been Fury’s gameplan from the offset.

Fury has made no secret of the fact he plans to ko Wilder in 2 rounds. Wilder has the speed to match his power when he comes in around the 215lbs mark. Fury knows this and now has a slower, heavier Wilder coming at him who will obviously tire quicker carrying around his career heaviest weight.

Wilder thinks this will be a shootout. Fury does not do shootouts. Fury is a switch-hitting boxer, that does not have the same 1 punch knockout power that Wilder possesses. In my view, this has been the game plan all along. Wilder has fallen into this trap and now has more weight than he has ever been used to in his life to go 12 long hard rounds with the best boxer in the heavyweight division.

Fury was not easy to hit when Wilder weighed 212lbs for the first fight. Fury will not be any easier to hit with Wilder now weighing 231lbs, which will undoubtedly have a negative effect on his speed.

My prediction now is the same as it always has been. Fury will win a clear 12 round unanimous points decision and become the NEW WBC world heavyweight champion.

“Both of them look ready for battle. I’m very, very excited,” said David Haye to BT Sport on Wilder vs. Fury 2 rematch. “If this public weigh-in is to go by, every single seat will be sold. They probably could have sold this entire venue out. They had to stop the fans from coming in. I think they had six or seven thousand where they said, ‘We can’t have more people in. It shows this demand where people wanted to see these two giants.

“You’ve got an undefeated American heavyweight champion [Deontay] vs. an undefeated lineal champion [Tyson] that beat Wladimir Klitschko and didn’t lose any of those belts in the ring. So potentially you’ve got #1 and #2 in the ring.

I’m sure Anthony Joshua will have an argument about that one, but it narrows the top three. We’ll find out who #1 and #2 are. Since seeing Fury on the scales, as positive as I was for Wilder before, I’m not as positive. He looked absolutely, fantastic, shoulders, arms, everything. He looked like a new man,” said Haye about Fury.

“Whatever he’s been doing in training, it looks like it’s working. If he fights as half as good as he looks, we’re in for a great fight. I just believe that Wilder’s punch power is too concussive, and I believe at some stage in the fight, he’s going to land that bomb, and Tyson Fury, I’m not sure could get up from it,” said Haye.
