By Chris Williams: Stephen Espinoza of Showtime has shot down the rumors of Adrien Broner and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis getting into a fistfight last Saturday night at the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Chris Mannix, who was one of the commentators for DAZN for the Canelo-Kovalev fight, Tweeted that his sources were saying that Broner and Davis had gotten into a fistfight outside of Canelo’s locker. He said that according to a witness that Broner had hit Davis a big punch, and also hit a public relations guy.

Broner and Davis are really good friends, and it’s unbelievable that the two of them would ever get into a fight. But obviously if the two stop hanging around with each other, then boxing fans will start believing the fistfight rumor to be true.

This the Tweet by Mannix about the Broner & Davis fistfight rumor:

Here’s Espinoza’s response to the rumor reported by Mannix:

“Your ‘sources’ are bulls–t,” said @StephenEspinoza to Mannix in response to his Broner and Gervonta fistfight rumor. “If a professional boxer – Broner or otherwise – hit a “PR guy” with a “haymaker,” then said PR guy would be in the ER. Having seen and spoken to said PR guy, that never happened. Worry about your disaster of a telecast before trying to distract with false stories.

“Stalling a Canelo fight so we can sit in the Arena and watch MMA on screens is insane. An insult to the sport of boxing in general & to Canelo and Kovalev in particular. Fans came to the MGM to watch boxing. If they wanted to watch MMA, they could have stayed home and done so,” said Espinoza.

The delay of the Canelo vs. Kovalev fight last Saturday was a pure annoyance for a lot of boxing fans. The fight didn’t get underway until past midnight for East Coast viewers.

The undefeated former IBF/WBA super featherweight champion Tank Davis (22-0, 21 KOs) will be fighting next month on December 28 against Yuriorkis Gamboa in Atlanta. The fight will be shown LIVE on Showtime. The two will be fighting for the vacant WBA lightweight title.

Broner, 30, hasn’t fought since last January in losing a 12 round unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao. Recently, Broner said that he’s retired from boxing. Given Broner’s popularity, it’s believed by many that he’ll be back inside the ring sooner or later. He gave Pacquiao a decent fight. If Broner let his hands go a little more, he might have won.
