By Mark Eisner: Eddie Hearn is hoping that Luke Campbell can pull off a once in a lifetime upset on Saturday night by dethroning pound-for-pound #1 Vasiliy Lomachenko in their fight on Sky Sports Box Office.

WBA/WBO lightweight champion Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KOs) is the heavy favorite over Campbell (20-2, 16 KOs) when the two of them fight for the vacant World Boxing Council 135-lb title at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Eddie Hearn beseeches Luke Campbell to beat Lomachenko

“🗣”We need a Great British performance.” 🇬🇧@EddieHearn is calling on @luke11campbell to deliver a heroic display tomorrow night in the hopes that Campbell can shock P4P star @VasylLomachenko”

The upset-minded Eddie wants 31-year-old Campbell to pull off the victory against the two-time Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko, and then take his place on the throne as the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. It’s not beyond the realm of possibilities for Campbell to win this fight.

Lomachenko looking exhausted & old this week

If you saw how exhausted and tired that the 31-year-old Lomachenko looked on Wednesday and Thursday, he resembled an older person. It’s quite clear that Lomachenko is getting older in a rapid fashion, and he’s ready for the taking. The way that Lomachenko looked, he had the appearance of someone a lot older than 31, and it’s quite discernible that his energy isn’t unlimited like it was in the past.

Even at the weigh-in on Friday, Lomachenko looked tired, like he’s had a lot of sleepless nights this week. Lomachenko says this has been an easier camp for him than his last one against Anthony Crolla last April. Whether it’s age or Lomachenko not getting enough sleep is unclear. If it’s age, then Campbell has a real shot at winning this fight. As long as Campbell applies massive pressure, he can win the fight. Campbell must use educated pressure, and focus on throwing body shots that will weaken Lomachenko.

If Lomachenko is getting tired from being asked simple questions by the media, then what will happen Saturday? What will happen when the boyish looking Campbell puts it on him for three minutes of each round? The secret to beating Lomachenko is to apply nonstop pressure for every second of every round, and watch him crumble.

Salido created the blueprint to beat Lomachenko

Orlando Salido did that to him in 2014, and won a 12 round decision. There was nothing complicated about what Salido did. He attacked Lomachenko hard with body shots in each round, and didn’t give him an opportunity to rest and recover. Campbell doesn’t fight like Salido. Still, he’s got a good engine that he can use to rapidly deplete Lomachenko’s energy stores, and then go for the KO.

Campbell fought well against Jorge Linares in his loss to him in 2017. Linares won with his combination punching in rounds 1-4 and 8-12. Campbell has got to be able to fight hard against Lomachenko if he wants to have his hand raised.
