By Chris Williams: It didn’t take long for Terence Crawford to retaliate and fire back at Errol Spence Jr. a day after he ripped the Top Rank fighter for re-upping with Top Rank, and saying that he’s never fought anyone and that he’s a beneath him as a B-side fighter.

Crawford says Spence must have been drunk last Saturday night when he was talking to the boxing media about him. Crawford says he would beat everyone on Spence’s resume, and he asked him how many division world titles he’s won.

Being with Premier Boxing Champions, Spence is arguably in a better position than Crawford is in being able to get big fights. Spence has these fighters he can face: Danny Garcia, Amir Khan, Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman and Yordenis Ugas. Having re-upped with Top Rank in extending his contract with them, Crawford has these guys to fight: Jose Benavidez and Jeff Horn [again].

Crawford has won world titles in three weight classes, but he’s won the belts off of largely weak opposition.

These are the three fighters that Crawford has beaten to become a three division world champion:

– Ricky Burns – lightweight

– Thomas Dulorme – Light welterweight

– Jeff Horn – Welterweight

Those guys are nowhere to be seen in those weight classes among the top fighters. The top fighters at lightweight nowadays are Mikey Garcia and Vasyl Lomachenko. At light welterweight, the top fighters are Regis Prograis, Jose Ramirez and Maurice Hooker. We don’t know whether Crawford would beat a talented fighter like Prograis. All we know is Prograis did a better job of beating Julius Indongo than Crawford did. Jeff Horn was not considered the cream of the crop at 147 when Crawford beat him last June. The top fighters at 147 are these guys: Spence, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and Amir Khan.

Spence would beat everyone that Crawford has beaten during his career, and he would likely do it in a much more impressive fashion. It’s hard to imagine guys like Yuriorkis Gamboa and Ricky Burns giving Spence problems, and yet those guys gave Crawford lots of trouble. Spence wouldn’t need to hold his way to a decision win over Raymundo Beltran if he fought him. Crawford was holding Beltran all night in winning a boring 12 round decision win over him in 2014. Viktor Postol wouldn’t go 12 rounds with Spence. That’s just very unlikely.

Crawford hasn’t fought anyone notable during his time with Top Rank, and you have to wonder if his career will fly by in the same manner as the first 10 years. Crawford has been a pro since 2008, and the best guy he’s faced up to now is Gamboa. If that continues to be the case, then it’s possible that when Crawford is old and past it like Manny Pacquiao is, he’ll have little to show for it in terms of notable fights.
