O’Sullivan angers Eubank Jr. with a kiss

eubank64By Scott Gilfoid: After all the trash talking that Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (22-1, 15 KOs) did to get on the nerves of Chris Eubank Jr. (20-1, 15 KOs), it was a kiss that he gave him earlier today that really got his kettle on the boil. O’Sullivan decided to steal a kiss when the two of them were face to face at the weigh-in.

Eubank Jr. needed restraining by his handlers after he was kissed by O’Sullivan. It is unclear what Eubank Jr. would have done had he gotten his hands on O’Sullivan. We can only try to imagine what he would have done.

In what could be more important than the big sloppy kiss that O’Sullivan gave Eubank Jr. was the fact that Eubank Jr initially came in overweight. He eventually made weight, but you have to wonder whether Eubank Jr. will be weak tomorrow night from the weight problems he had.

“He’s [O’Sullivan] trying to ruffle my feathers. He knows I have a strong mental advantage over him and he’s trying to bring me down to his level but I’m cool, calm and collected,” Eubank Jr. said after the weigh-in and after the kiss.

I have to disagree with Eubank Jr. about him being “cool, calm and collected.” On the contrary, Eubank Jr. looked anything but cool and calm at the weigh-in. He looked visibly upset by his interactions with O’Sullivan, and it wasn’t just the kissing episode that did it to him. O’Sullivan was clearly the guy in charge on stage.

Heck, even Eubank Jr’s father Chris Eubank Sr. upstaged him by going into a dance while they were on stage. It was something very bizarre and totally out of place. It just looked like Eubank Sr. wanted the attention on himself, so he went into a short dance and he had all the cameras on him.

I thought the dancing was poor, disjointed and herky-jerky. However, the dancing and the kissing kind of made the whole weird thing flow together somehow. The only thing they needed was a clown on stage with some balloons and lollipops to give away to the people in the audience.

“It’s a very serious fight. It’s a final eliminator for a world title bout and we’re going to put our lives on the line,” Eubank Jr. said. “I’m in the zone. This is the biggest fight of my life and I’ve trained like a dog for many months. It’s punishment time. I was a tiny bit over. I was wearing gloves. I’m going to punish the guy. I’m going to punish him for what he’s said over the past few years.”

Eubank Jr. sure is bellyaching about O’Sullivan. He just needs to shut-up and take the pain of the embarrassment. It is no big deal. Therefore, so what if he got kissed on the mouth and failed to make weight on the first go round.

The winner of the Eubank Jr-O’Sullivan fight will be the WBA mandatory challenger to WBA champ Daniel Jacobs. I don’t think either of these guys will do well against Jacobs, because he’s in his prime right now and fighting at a very high level. That punch that Jacobs landed last Saturday that hurt Peter Quillin would have Eubank Jr. and O’Sullivan in serious trouble. I think the winner of the Eubank Jr. vs. O’Sullivan fight would be better off going after the winner of the Andy Lee vs. Billy Joe Saunders fight for the WBO title, because I think they’d match-up better with one of those guys, as long as it’s not Saunders.
