Tyson Fury: ‘I Predicted Klitschko Injury’

fury100By Tim Fletcher: After hearing the news that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) had pulled out of their scheduled October 24th fight in Dusseldorf, Germany, Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) says he and his trainer Peter, and his father John Fury had predicted the 39-year-old Klitschko would pull out of the fight for one reason or another.

Wladimir told the media today that he had suffered a calf injury while training for the fight. He plans on rescheduling the fight as soon as he has a timeline for how long it’ll take for his injury to heal up. Wladimir’s physician, Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, has diagnosed him with a torn left calf muscle.

Fury is saying that the fight will be postponed until sometime in November, but he’s not sure if the injury will take more time than that to heal, or if Wladimir will continue fighting. Fury suspects that Wladimir could retire rather than fight him. Fury says he doesn’t want to be given Wladimir’s four titles outside of the ring without fighting the best man for them.

“Yesterday, me, Peter [Fury] and my dad [John Fury], had a conversation, [saying] he’s going to pull out. Peter phones me this morning [and says] ‘he’s pulled out,’” Fury said to sporting interview. “Am I that intimidating? Am I that scary? Batman cost me a big fight. Klitschko, let’s hope he reschedules; let’s hope he wants to do the fight again. He can’t go anywhere else. The only option is to retire just like the other man [David Haye] did. So am I going to be the man that retires people rather than them fighting me? I half expected it anyway. It was 75 percent that he was going to pull out before he did,” Fury said. “So I was expecting that. Let’s hope the fight goes on unless he’s going to give me the titles, which I don’t want. I’d rather not be even given the titles to not fight the best man for them. I don’t want any birthday presents,” Fury added.

Fury says he doesn’t even want to talk about Klitschko not being able to come back from this injury because he’s afraid that his prediction could somehow come true. Fury believes that whatever he says about the future could come true if he speaks negatively about it. Wladimir has the type of injury that could cause the fight to be postponed for a considerable amount of time. Fury says he’s willing to wait until the injury heals rather than him going off in another direction, but we’ll see if his patience doesn’t eventually wear out on him.

The timing of the injury is really bad. It comes directly after Wladimir left London, England after his press conference with Fury. According to Fury, Wladimir suffered the injury not long after stepping out of the plane. It’s unclear what the circumstances are behind the injury.

If the injury lingers on, Fury might be better off taking a stay busy fight so that he doesn’t waste time waiting for the 39-year-old Wladimir. Fury could take on one of the British heavyweights like Tom Dallas or Dereck Chisora and get in some rounds to stay sharp for the Klitschko fight. What Fury doesn’t need is for him to get rusty from inactivity while he waits month after month for Klitschko to find finally return to action when his calf heals.

“@Tyson_Fury take a small vacation & stay focused! 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾,” Eddie Chambers said on his Twitter.

“@Tyson_Fury you gotta stop intimidating these fellas!! Wait till you get em in the ring first!!! Chin up man, it’ll come, all in good time,” said WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee on his social media account.

This fight is Fury’s big chance to show that he’s a major player in the heavyweight division. He believes that if he can beat Klitschko, it’ll validate him as the best heavyweight in the division. In reality, it’ll just mean that he caught Wladimir at the right time in his career for him to be beaten. Fury would still need to prove that he can beat Wladimir in a rematch before he moves forward to stay fighting the likes of Deontay Wilder, Alexander Povetkin, Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte and Ruslan Chagaev.
