Eubank Jr: I see weakness in Golovkin, he’s beatable!

eubank4By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBA 160b contender Chris Eubank Jr. (19-1, 14 KOs) says he spots weaknesses in IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s game that he feels he can exploit when he eventually gets a fight against him in the future.

With Eubank Jr’s No.1 ranking, it probably won’t take very long if his management are actually interested in having him go that route to the title. There’s the WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs that would seem to be the more logical route for the 25-year-old Eubank Jr. to take to the world title rather than skipping to the head of the class to fight Golovkin.

“I want whoever has the belts,” Eubank Jr. said to skysports.com. “Obviously you’ve got your man Gennady Golovkin, who is seen as one of the pound-for-pound best.”

Eubank Jr. was recently beaten by Billy Joe Saunders by a 12 round split decision last November. It would seem like it might be a better than for Eubank Jr. to go back and try and avenge that loss rather than yapping about wanting a fight against Golovkin. Eubank Jr. didn’t let his hands go in the first six rounds against Saunders, and that’s why he ended up losing the fight.

While Eubank Jr. did rally to make it close in the 2nd half of the fight, he just gave up way too many rounds in the first half of the fight to come back and win. Eubank Jr. obviously couldn’t fight like that against someone like Golovkin, because if he didn’t let his hands go against him in the first six rounds, he’d likely be carried out of the ring by the 6th if he lasted that long.

“I personally see weaknesses in his [Golovkin] boxing style and I believe when I get my opportunity, I’ll be able to exploit those weaknesses,” Eubank Jr. said about Golovkin.

Whatever weakness that Eubank Jr. sees in Golovkin’s fighting style, it’s not likely something that Eubank Jr. would be able to take advantage of because he would be forced to be so defensive to avoid getting knocked out. Eubank Jr. would be dancing around all night long and likely stinking up the joint fighting on the back foot in order to survive. If Eubank Jr. did stop running and actually come at Golovkin to try and win, he’d run into something and likely wind up picking up his teeth on the canvas.

I see Eubank Jr. as Willie Monroe 2.0. I see him as a poor man’s version of Monroe. At least with Monroe, he’s got a little bit of punching power and some skills. Eubank Jr. is just a pot shot fighter who doesn’t throw enough punches, and stands and poses too much.

Eubank Jr. wastes so much time with his posing in his fights. He really needs a good trainer so that he can take all that junk out of his game, and make him an active fighter. Eubank Jr reminds me a lot of Adrien Broner, and I don’t mean that in a good sense.

“There is no maybe about it. He’s [Golovkin] 100 per cent beatable and I am the man to do it,” Eubank Jr. said about Golovkin.

Well, it would be nice if Eubank Jr. would go back and at least prove that he’s good enough to defeat Saunders, because I can’t take anything he says seriously with him having been beaten by Saunders.

Eubank Jr. hasn’t fought since stopping Dmitry Chudinov in the 12th round last February in a competitive fight. It wasn’t a one-sided fight. Eubank Jr. took a lot of punishment in that fight, and it wasn’t even against who I feel is the good Chudinov brother. I rate Fedor Chudinov as a much better fighter than Dmitry Chudinov. Eubank Jr. didn’t even look dominating against Chudinov. If he can’t even dominate the likes of Chudinov and can’t even beat Saunders, then how in the heck can Eubank Jr. ever hope to defeat someone like GGG?

You have to wonder why Eubank Jr. hasn’t been fighting. He’s been out of the ring for the past seven months and he still doesn’t have any fights scheduled. From the looks of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if Eubank Jr. only fights once in 2015. That’s not too good is you’re interested in fighting for a world title.
