golovkin101By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Sr. thinks his son WBA interim middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (19-1, 14 KOs) will destroys IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) if they face each other right now.

Eubank Sr. says that Golovkin is too slow and easy to hit for Eubank Jr. Indeed, he thinks that Eubank Jr. would destroy the Kazakhstan fighter, which is why he’s steering the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. towards a fight with Golovkin.

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport is Eubank Jr’s new promoter, and it’s unclear how much control he has over the match-making for Eubank Jr. If he has a total control over Eubank Jr’s match-making, then I don’t see him and Golovkin fighting each other, because Hearn seems to have his feet firmly planted on earth and he obviously has a pretty good idea what would happen if he threw Eubank Jr. in the ring with Golovkin.

If you notice the kind of match-making that Hearn does, his fighters almost always win. It’s very rare that one of Hearn’s fighters lose. That’s not because he’s got the greatest fighters in boxing. It’s because Hearn is matching them very carefully by not putting them in against guys that would make a mess of them.

“If I can see it now with him [Eubank Jr] and GGG then obviously I’m going to push and steer him towards that because he’s the big name and the guy,” Eubank Sr. said to the dailystar.co.uk. “I think Jr. destroys him. I just do. He destroys him in my view. I think Jr destroys him. He’s slow and he’s easy to hit. Those are his weaknesses. He’s not the pound-for-pound (best fighter on the planet).”

Granted, Golovkin isn’t the faster fighter in the world, but he is a huge puncher and he’s willing to put his chin on the line to go after his opponents. Eubank Jr. isn’t a huge puncher, and he’s not as fast as many of the other fighters in the sport. I think Billy Joe Saunders has better hand speed than Eubank Jr., and we saw what happened to Eubank Jr. in that fight.

I don’t think Eubank Jr. could ever beat Golovkin, not in a million years. Even if Golovkin was in his 50s, I think he would still be able to KO Eubank Jr., because he’s just a much better all-around fighter. Eubank Jr. needs a trainer that can stop him from wasting so much time posing like a peacock every time he throws a punch or makes a move. I mean, I don’t know where Eubank Jr. got that wacky style of fighting, but it just looks really bizarre and it’s so ineffective.

Instead of posing every time he throws a punch, Eubank Jr. needs to be moving out of range, or better yet throwing more punches. I hope for Eubank Jr’s sake Adam Booth, one of his assistant trainers, can teach him to stop wasting time with that silly posing, because it just looks so dumb.

If Eubank Jr. hadn’t wasted time with his posing in his fight against Saunders, he would have beaten him. But all that useful standing still posing stuff led to Eubank Jr failing to throw enough punches to win the fight.

I can only imagine what would happen to Eubank Jr. if he fought Golovkin and he tried to pose after throwing a single punch. Golovkin would be all over him in nailing with punch after punch, and knocking him senseless.

I don’t see Eubank Jr going too far in the sport other than being an interim champion. He can’t beat Saunders, and guys like Daniel Jacobs, Andy Lee and Golovkin would be too strong for him. Eubank Jr. needs to think about losing some weight and going down to 154, where his lack of punching power and his odd posing style of fighting won’t be as much of a hindrance as it is at 160.

You can’t play around in the middleweight division with posing after every single shot you throw. You’ve got to be able to put your punches together by throwing combinations, and you can’t be preoccupied at looking good to the crowd as you move around the ring.

Eubank Jr. admires his work too much and it just makes him look like he needs help from a good trainer that talk some sense into him. I think Teddy Atlas would be perfect for Eubank Jr.

There’s no way on earth Atlas would put up with Eubank Jr posing after he throws a shot to admire his work. Atlas would read Eubank Jr the riot act if he tried that kind of thing in training camp. Believe me, by the time that Eubank Jr got to his first fight with Atlas as his trainer, he wouldn’t be posing anymore after he throws a punch. At last wouldn’t put up with it.

At this point, I think IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) would make easy work of Eubank Jr., and likely obliterate him in two or three rounds. As soon as Lemieux catches Eubank Jr. posing after a punch, the fight would be over. It would be too easy for Lemieux. He doesn’t have any weird posing quirks in his game that stops him from throwing more punches after he throws a shot. To beat a fighter like Lemieux, you can’t have the kind of malfunctions in your game like Eubank Jr. does with his silly posing after he throws a shot.
