By Michael Montero: Tomorrow night in Los Angeles Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (21-5, 7KO) and Philadelphia’s Hank Lundy (25-4, 12KO) square off in a junior welterweight 10-rounder. The co-feature is a lightweight contest between Michael Perez (22-1-2, 10KO) and Luis Sanchez (17-3-1, 5KO), also scheduled for 10 rounds. The bouts will air live on HBO Latino as part of a Golden Boy Promotions card following a special “fan fiesta” event they are having earlier in the afternoon at the LA Sports Arena.

The un-televised card features bouts with undefeated prospects Joseph Diaz Jr and Jason Quigley, among others. Today all the boxers hit the scales to weigh in.

Hank Lundy hit the scales first and weighed in at 139 pounds; Herrera followed and came in at 139.4. Both men looked to be in good shape and easily made the junior welterweight 140lb limit. There were heated words during the stare down, which amped up the fans that came out to see the proceedings. This should be a good scrap as both men have been the victims of bad decisions in the past; you get the impression that they don’t want to leave this one in the hands of the judges.

Next up was Mexican Luis Sanchez, who weighed 133.4 pounds. Newark, New Jersey native Michael Perez followed and came in at 134.4 pounds. Perez is the taller, bigger man and has faced the better opposition. Sanchez has fought most of his career at junior lightweight, while Perez has fought several times at junior welterweight in recent years.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area be sure to come out to Golden Boy’s “fan fiesta” tomorrow at the Sports Arena where you’ll be able to meet fighters and boxing personalities. There is no admission to the festivities, which begin at 1pm pacific time until the doors open for the fights. The undercard is loaded with undefeated prospects. It should be a great Saturday of boxing in the city of angels.
