By Wilmar Patino (Boxing’s Finest) Hello Boxing fans and enthusiasts and welcome to another edition of Upcoming fights for the next 30 days. As you already know Danny Garcia will be taking on Lamont Peterson this Saturday in a non title fight. I think there is enough coverage on this site of that fight so we’ll begin with the all out war between Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov.

Lucas Matthysse vs Ruslan Provodnikov will be taking place at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY on April 18th. I will personally be there and this fight promises to be a classic if it doesn’t end too early. Matthysse is coming off of a 2nd round knockout vs Roberto Ortiz where he scored a brutal body shot that had Ortiz counted out at 10. Provodnikov is coming off of his knockout win vs faded Jose Luis Castillo and prior to that lost a debatable decision to Chris Algieri. Both men pack a tremendous punch and they don’t back peddle. One can only hope to see the type of fireworks seen in Gatti vs Ward 1, and Castillo vs Corrales. If it’s anything of that liking Boxing fans who thirst for blood will be in for a treat. In a split double header Terrence Crawford will be taking on Thomas Dulorme as the co main event.

Wladimir Klitschko vs Bryant Jennings will take place at Madison Square Garden in NY on April 25 the following week. Klitschko looks to continue his reign of dominance as he moves on to go for his 22nd consecutive win while Bryant Jennings looks to upset the apple cart and dethrone the king. This marks the first time in about 7 years since Wladimir Klitschko fought in the states as he continues his dominance in the winter stages of his career.

IMG_5040(Photo credit: HBO) Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao will take place on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This fight presumably is the most anticipated match in years and has had many Boxing fans debating relentlessly on who the best of their era is. Well we will find out and settle the score once and for all. This fight is expected to break all PPV revenue records and is Boxing’s “Superbowl” event of the year. Regardless of who you side with in the words of Mills Lane I’m sure we are all ready to “Get it On!”

Finally we have Saul Canelo Alvarez facing off with James Kirkland at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on May 9th. James Kirkland is coming off a long lay off, but finally has his shot at super stardom that he’s been craving for quite some time. While Canelo Alvarez looks to take on a tough competitor and prove to the naysayers that he belongs in Boxing’s Pound for Pound list. Should be an interesting fight if Kirkland can apply the pressure and land his big shots. Either way we are in for one hell of a month.
