By Wilmar Patino (Boxing’s Finest): Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is days away lets take time to talk about the future of the sport post Mayweather and Pacquiao. There are a few names that come to mind when we think about the future of Boxing, but to me Terence Crawford seems to be the most promising. For one, he’s only 27 years old and backed by Top Rank and HBO.

He has shown incredible adjustments through diversity and being an American champion doesn’t hurt his case either. So lets talk a little bit about Terence “Bud” Crawford.

Hailing out of Omaha, Nebraska he has worked his way to Championship fights. He has traveled and beaten champions in their hometown and has become a fan favorite in Nebraska. Most recently he knocked down the then undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa several times before Knocking him out in front of thousands of hometown fans cheering on their Champ. In that fight he showcased some great adjustments and switched stances from orthodox to southpaw with ease. Displaying shades of Marvin Hagler with his “switch hitter” style. Gaining many fans and reassuring me that we may have something very special in this young man, Terence Crawford.

Since then he won an easy unanimous decision over Raymundo Beltran while showcasing his talents in the sweet science. He has an exceptional defense, good foot and handspeed, and seems to pack a good enough punch to back opponents off and put them out. After making his debut in the junior welterweight division vs a formidable opponent in Thomas Dulorme he seemed to be slightly behind the scorecards after possibly losing the first 2 rounds. Yet Crawford would go on to do what he does best and make the adjustments in quickly out pointing Dulorme to score a 6th round knockout making a statement to all comers in the junior welterweight division.

Terence Crawford has the skills and craft to go along with the attention he’s garnering to become the next P4P star in Boxing. I believe he will eventually move to welterweight and make the big bucks there and cement his Legacy. Now I know it’s very early to tell, and he needs to fight some top notch fighters and earn his way up the rankings, but from what I have seen from him I believe he has all the potential to be the next P4P star in Boxing. What do you think about Terence Crawford? After Mayweather and Pacquiao leave the sport do you believe he will be next in line to become a household name and take the throne? Let us know your thoughts and opinions. Above is a video to give you an example of whom I believe is a “Rising Star”, Terence Crawford. Enjoy, comment and debate!
