Mayweather Sr: Pacquiao’s so damn short, he ain’t got a chance in hell against Floyd Jr

mayweather sr2By Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr already has Manny Pacquiao sized up for his son Floyd Mayweather Jr in their fight on 5/2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Floyd Sr doesn’t see the 36-year-old Pacquiao as having a chance in this fight, because he sees him as being too short to do anything against the taller Mayweather Sr.

Additionally, Floyd Sr notes that Pacquiao hasn’t knocked out anybody in the last five years, and he sees him as being helpless without the punching power that he once had many moons ago back in 2009.

One of the main reasons why Floyd Sr knows that Mayweather Jr will have any easy fight against Pacquiao is because of the way that Juan Manuel Marquez got the better of Pacquiao in their four fights together.

The way Floyd Sr sees it, if Pacquiao couldn’t handle Marquez, a fighter that Mayweather easily beat in a one-sided fight in 2009, then there’s no way Pacquiao will be able to hang with Mayweather when they get inside the ring on May 2nd.

“The man [Pacquiao] ain’t knocked nobody out in five years. He ain’t knocked nobody out in 5 years, and the same guy that knocked his [backside] ice cold, Floyd beat him 12 rounds easy,” Floyd Sr said via Fighthype.com. “If he was struggling with Marquez then, that boy ain’t got a chance in hell. I’m just telling you the truth, man. He’s so damn short. Floyd’s going to make him look like a baby.”

There’s no question that Pacquiao is a short fighter at only 5’6”, and he’ll be giving up two inches in height to the 5’8” Mayweather. But more importantly, Pacquiao will be giving up a whopping five inches in reach to Mayweather, who has a reach advantage of 72” to 67” for Pacquiao. That’s almost a half a foot in reach, and Mayweather knows how to use his reach against shorter opponents to his advantage. Mayweather isn’t going to give up his reach by standing too close to Pacquiao in order to give the Filipino star a chance in the fight.

It’s unknown why Pacquiao’s knockouts have dried up him since 2009. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has theorized that Pacquiao has become too much of a nice guy, and that he feels sorry for his opponents and doesn’t want to hurt them. Roach also recently said that Pacquiao’s natural testosterone has decreased, although how Roach would be able to know this without testing is unknown.

In other words, Roach is just grasping at straws and guessing. Aging fighters sometimes see a drop in their natural testosterone, and that’s just something you have to deal with as part of aging. Using it as excuse doesn’t fly though. Mayweather hasn’t been scoring a lot of knockouts recently either, but he’s still winning and looking as good as ever due to his speed and boxing skills.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will come down to whoever the best boxer of the two is. If Pacquiao can hang with Mayweather in the boxing department, then we’re going to see a fight where Pacquiao has a chance of winning. But if Mayweather builds up an early lead in the first half of the fight, I see Pacquiao getting reckless in the 2nd half and taking too many risky chances. If Pacquiao fights recklessly like he did against Marquez in their fourth fight, then I can see Mayweather knocking Pacquiao out.
