Mayweather KO’s critics, Canelo/Oscar with a pen

floyd5By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: For all those who called WBA and WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr a coward for not facing his nemesis Manny Pacquiao, that he was scared, that he would never face someone who “punches from different angles”, whose work rate, footwork, speed and power can stifle Mayweather, every last one of them are now eating their words.

In fact, they are stuffed beyond capacity. But moreover, those historic sports figures such as Marvin Hagler and former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin and many many more, who ever took a swipe at Mayweather, questioned his legacy if he didn’t fight Pacquiao, will ALL be in attendance on fight night.

They can say they are there to support Pacquiao, but they WILL see Floyd also. That’s unless of course they plan to cover one eye only focusing on Pac, and then switching hands and angles as the two fighters move around the ring.

Other than that, go luck. Not only that, those who choose to attack his personal life, feasted on his domestic issues, and the spewed venom from their keyboards into the comment section on blogs, will be ALL be paying attention when the bell rings.

I’m certain that Mayweather will benefit financially from those who hate him as well. Now everyone doesn’t hate Mayweather. He has his share of fans, but he has more haters. And those haters are ready to fork over cash to see him lose to Pacquiao.

It will be the largest most lucrative fight in terms of money and pay per view buys for years to come. And this will be the third fight of such manner for that involves Floyd. Mayweather has twice crossed the two million pay per view mark. He did it with Oscar De La Hoya (2.4 million buys) and Saul Canelo (2.2 million buys). I believe had this fight taken place five years ago, I don’t believe it would be as big as it is now. The timing is perfect. And I as stated above the figures (when it’s all said and done) will tell the tale.

On the flip side, Oscar will have nothing to do with this fight whatsoever. There will be no Golden Boy fighters appearing on the undercard either. Even if Cotto and Canelo did come to terms, it was not going to take place on May 2nd of this year. Mayweather used to use Golden Boy for promotional reasons because his company Mayweather Promotions was not fully legit paperwork wise. And now it is. And already the excuse of “Floyd waited for Manny to slow down” has already filled the comment sections of blogs. Let’s set the record straight. Mayweather has just as many fights as Pacquiao as Mayweather has an amateur record of 83-6. Combine that with 47 wins and that’s 130 fights. NEITHER fighter is in their prime so that excuse is out the window and both fighters have slowed.

Plus, this was the ONE fight that haters said Mayweather needed to cement his legacy. That is utter nonsense still because one fight doesn’t make or break a legacy. But for the sake of the haters he’s giving the world the ONE fight they said he’d never take. As for Canelo, for at least one more fight, will have to wait his turn fighting on Cinco De Mayo. He tried desperately to push Floyd off that date by trying to dictate terms to World Boxing Council middleweight champ Miguel Cotto. Mayweather paid no attention to Canelo’s threats of reclaiming Cinco De Mayo as he pursued the Pacquiao fight. Mayweather defeats Canelo and Oscar again. This time with a dotted line and a pen.
