guerrero11111By Cameron Gillon: British welterweight Amir Khan has reportedly agreed to facing American Robert Guerrero in his next fight in December over in America at the Barclays Centre, in New York for the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver welterweight title and WBA international title.

Khan was rumored to face Josesito Lopez as a stay busy fight for a potential mega fight with unbeaten American welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. You have to feel this fight against Guerrero is a much better fight because Guerrero is a much more bigger name in boxing than Lopez.

Guerrero hasn’t been in with many big names. His most notable win is against Andre Berto. Guerrero then went and lost a unanimous decision to Mayweather in May 2013. Since then Guerero took a break from boxing but came back with a win earlier this year when he beat little known Yoshihiro Kamegai in June over a 12 round decision.

This is a good fight for Khan. He hasn’t look good since losing to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia a few years ago. Since them losses he has faced Carlos Molina winning that bout with a 12 round TKO, but struggled up to that moment. Khan then faced Julio Diaz and went on to beat him over a 12 round unanimous decision but he really had to impress in that fight by ending it inside the distance. He faced Luiz Collazo and looked better in that fight. Khan was fighting with a jab and hold style but sometimes looked to be wrestling Collazo and putting him in head locks to slow Collazo down.

Khan is talking about facing Mayweather in 2015 in one of Mayweather’s last two fights. Mayweather recently said Khan has Bredis Prescott and Danny Garcia problems. Khan lost to both of them before. You can forget about Khan facing Prescott. Since Prescott knocked Khan out he has gone on and done nothing in his career, other than being a stepping stone opponent for fighters now. Prescott is only known for that win and you have to feel despite losing the fight. It’s a step back for Khan now.

Onto a rematch between Garcia and Khan, you can’t see that happening either. Garcia seems to be avoiding any big risky fights since winning a very controversial decision win over Mauricio Herrera. Herrera really beat Garcia in the minds of a lot of boxing fans, but Garcia was given a controversial win. Khan now should of faced Keith Thurman in his next fight. If Khan faced Thurman and beat him, then you would have to consider Khan a hot prospect to get a Mayweather fight. Really that would of been a fight where the winner would deserve a crack at Mayweather. There isn’t any fighters left out there for Mayweather to face. A long awaited fight with Manny Pacquiao is still a unlikely chance. The other big money fighters like Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez have already been beaten by Mayweather and Canelo and Cotto are likely fighting in May 2015. Mayweather may decide to face the winner of that in his last fight. the winner of Khan/Guerrero will likely be searching for Mayweather next, but Guerrero has been soundly beaten by Mayweather, so Khan winning is a must really.
