maidana57By Chris Williams: Here are some of the quotes from today’s media day with Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs):

“I think its advantage for me that I’ve experienced his style before. I’ll take advantage of his mistakes,” Chino Maidana said about his rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. “My distance control wasn’t great. I smothered my punches. I’m not sure I ever really hurt him. This time I’ll keep my distance.”

“I think I can win by decision or by knockout,” Maidana said. “The 1st fight was a very close fight. I just need to make a few adjustments. I’m going to make history September 13. It’s really difficult to knockout Floyd because he runs, but I’ll do my best to make it happen. No, I haven’t had the pleasure of having such a pleasant dream.”

“I think I forced him to fight and that’s the reason he fought that way,” Maidana said. “I don’t think he did it for the fans. I’m going to keep pressuring him. When I did that in the last fight, I did very well. It had to do with conditioning. When he boxed, I let him move around because I got tired. I hope Floyd Mayweather will fight like a man and stand in front of me again.”

Maidana continued “He says he wants to please the fans so we’ll see. I don’t think age has anything to do with it. He’s a great athlete and in good shape. It was his decision to stand and fight. It doesn’t bother me. There are things he does in there 2. He should stop complaining.”

I like the part where Maidana says he hopes Mayweather stands and fights him like a man. Maidana sounds like he’s asking Mayweather not to box him. Mayweather already fought Maidana’s fight last May when he openly admitted before and after the fight that he was giving fans a fight that they wanted to see by him slugging with Maidana. But you can’t expect Mayweather to keep giving Maidana handicaps each time he fights him. The last time Mayweather gave Maidana a break by fighting at his level, but this time Mayweather is going to fight at his own level, and it’s going to be up to Maidana to try and see if he can fight to Mayweather’s level.
