Ellerbe says Floyd aiming to KO Maidana

mayweather2256By Raj Parmar: During a recent media workout to promote the rematch between Floyd Mayweather (46-0, 26 KO’s) and Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s), Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe openly discussed Mayweather’s motivation for the fight and Floyd’s intent of ensuring Maidana does not make the final bell.

“Floyd is very prepared for this fight and is extremely motivated in his preparation,” Ellerbe stated via Fightype.com, “He has some added incentive because Chino (Maidana) has been talking a lot of trash and Floyd finds that very disrespectful. Floyd is very determined to stop Chino.”

Maidana is definitely fired up for the rematch with Mayweather. Marcos seems genuinely agitated by Floyd’s refusal to let him wear his gloves of choice (Everlast MX) and his accusations that Maidana is nothing more than a dirty MMA style boxer. This has led Maidana to attack back against Floyd and he has called Floyd a “little [expletive]” in regards to his fighting style and has stated that Floyd is not anything special in the ring like everyone claims he is.

The assertion made by Maidana that Floyd isn’t that great in the ring like his reputation suggests has seemingly gotten under Floyd’s skin. It is no secret that Floyd cherishes being labelled as the world’s best fighter and takes any verbal assault on his abilities extremely seriously.

“Chino has said that Floyd isn’t the great boxer that everyone thinks he is because he has been in the ring with him already. Come September 13th, Chino has to confront all the things he has been saying about Floyd head on,” Ellerbe explained, “Floyd wants to stop him to make a point that he doesn’t want his ability to be second-guessed. I truly believe that this fight will be much more exciting than the first fight because you will see much more action.”

Floyd’s last KO was when he put down Victor Ortiz for the count in 2011 as Ortiz was seemingly confused if the referee had signaled time-out or not and was not totally protecting himself. Prior to that, Floyd was able to stop the undefeated Ricky Hatton in the tenth round of their welterweight title fight back in 2007. Maidana has never been stopped in his career and if Mayweather can get the KO or TKO, it would definitely be an impressive feat for the world number one pound for pound fighter.
