Chavez Jr-Froch negotiations going slowly, says Hearn

froch552By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn says that the negotiations are moving slowly for a fight he’s trying to put together with Top Rank for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs. Carl Froch fight on January 24th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hearn says he’s got other options for Froch in case the Chaves Jr fight doesn’t get made by putting him in with Mikkel Kessler for a third fight between them, and James DeGale. I’m sure Hearn would look to make the Froch-DeGale fight in a second, same with the Kessler match-up. Hearn promotes DeGale and Froch, so he’d be killing two birds with one stone if he were to make a fight between them.

“I’m continuing talks with Bob Arum over a fight between Carl Froch and Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr on January 24 in Las Vegas,” Hearn said to the Dailymail.co.uk. “It’s going slowly. We still have the same options of Chavez, James DeGale and Mikkel Kessler.”

I’d be really surprised if the Froch-Chavez Jr fight gets made because that’s a fight that Froch could realistically lose due to him never having faced a body puncher like Chavez Jr, and because of Chavez Jr’s steel chin.

If Froch can’t knock Chavez Jr out, then he’ll need to take 12 rounds of getting nailed by his huge body and head shots. Chavez Jr punches every bit as hard as George Groves, but he’s a way, way better body puncher and he’s got a much better chin than him.

Froch would be getting hit with monstrous shots all fight long against Chavez Jr, and I can’t see a referee jumping in prematurely to halt the fight like we saw in the first Froch-Groves fight. But where Froch would have a ton of problems with Chavez Jr is with his body punching. He’d be making it hell for Froch, because his body is the one area that hasn’t been tested during his career.

I see the Froch-Chavez Jr fight not getting made, and then Hearn turning around and putting Froch in with DeGale. That’s obviously not nearly as interesting fight than the Froch-Chavez fight, but it is a safr one for Froch.
