may1(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Chris Williams: Both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana weighed in today at 147 pounds at their weigh-in for tomorrow night’s fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both looked good and ready to go. Neither of them said anything at the weigh-in. Mayweather later said that he had respect for Maidana, and didn’t feel he had anything bad to say about the man.

“I’m Floyd Mayweather, I’m not Adrien Broner,” Mayweather said after the weigh-in. “This is a totally different fighter and I have a lot more experience than Adrien Broner. I’m not saying that Adrien Broner is not a good fighter, but this is a totally different level and this is a totally different fighter. With Adrien Broner, he’s a lightweight, he’s 135-pounder; whereas with myself, I’m a bigger guy. I believe I’m a natural welterweight. I walk around at 150-147.”

Mayweather felt he had to speak up about him being a different fighter than Broner because Maidana had pulled out Broner’s name many times during the last few weeks in an effort to boost his own name by suggesting that he proved already that he could beat Mayweather’s style of fighting. He’s talking about the shoulder roll defense, but Mayweather does a lot more than just use the shoulder roll, and those other qualities – speed, foot movement and athleticism – are things that Broner has never been able adopt.

Maidana said “I totally understand that Mayweather is a different fighter than Adrien Broner – more quickness – and I have to come out a little cautious. I know I can’t come out like I did against Adrien Broner. I knew by pressing him, I would get to him. I know Mayweather has a lot of experience and can counter punch.”

This is one of those fights won’t rehydrate much after the weigh-in. Both guys looked about the same as they always do, and weren’t weight drained to make weight.
