Fury and Chisora jaw at each other in mild face to face meeting

fury4By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweights Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora trash talked each other earlier today in a meeting at the Printworks in Manchester, UK to help drum up interest for their rematch on July 26h at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, UK. The rematch is hardly needed due to Fury having totally dominated Chisora in his 12 round decision victory in 2011, but it’s a rematch that will make them both a lot of money because there’s interest in the UK in a second fight.

The winner of the affair will be in line to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko at some point in the future.

Fury got Chisora worked up during their face to face today by saying “You must be on drugs.” Chisora took it literally and walked up on him as if he were hoping to get Fury to show fear and back down. He didn’t and the two fighters ended up being separated after Steve Bunce asked someone to step in and help him out. Chisora then ended up getting into an argument with Fury’s brother, but nothing came of it other than Chisora calling him fat.

“You got a bad beating the first time. The second time you’re getting knocked the spark out,” said Fury.

Chisora said “What are you talking about? You’re getting in the ring with me because you need a paycheck.”

Fury: “He knows not to do anything because he’ll get knocked out.”

Chisora: “I know for a face you’re getting knocked out. You got knocked down by a cruiserweight.”

Fury: “You’re a domestic level fighter.”

I think it’s a pretty cut and dried case of Fury being too big for Chisora to land his looping rabbit punches in this one. Without Chisora able to land those kinds of punches, he stands no chance against the much taller 6’9″ Fury. I just see this as another mismatch, and another loss for Chisora. He does good against the 3rd tier fighters he’s beaten since his loss to David Haye in 2012, but he’s not in Fury’s league and this should be an easy fight for Fury.

This whole meeting was too contrived to for me. It was really disappointing because Fury looked timid, and Chisora wasted time arguing with the crowd instead of Fury. If these guys are going to sell this needless rematch then they’re going to need to do a better job than this because I didn’t see any real anger.
