Pacquiao thinks Mayweather doesn’t want to fight him

floyd888By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao is seemingly discouraged with his ability to get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. after learning recently that he wants Pacquiao to leave his long-time promoter Bob Arum before he’ll agree to fight him. To Pacquiao, he sees this as Mayweather Jr. not really being interested in fighting him. To top if off, Mayweather has been trash talking the 35-year-old Pacquiao as of late by saying he’s “desperate” for the fight.

Pacquiao doesn’t seem to understand that Mayweather is just trash talking the way he normally spars with his opponents – or in this case – his would be opponent before fighting them. Pacquiao seems to be getting upset with Mayweather’s ribbing of him. Pacquiao doesn’t understand Mayweather very well, and is taking his trash talking and requests as a sign that he doesn’t want to fight.

“He really looks like he does not want to fight me, so I think there’s nothing we can do about it already,” Pacquiao said via abs-cbnnews. “Let’s forget about the Mayweather fight for the meantime. Now he wants me to separate myself from my promoter, which I cannot possibly do without violating my contract.”

Pacquiao needs to see the big picture and understand Mayweather a little better. It’s got to be difficult for the Filipino fighter to understand Mayweather, but he seems to be transparent in what he’s asking of Pacquiao. He simply wants him to be free of Bob Arum before he fights him. Is that too hard to understand? There’s nothing cryptic about what Mayweather is asking him.

There’s no puzzle to Mayweather’s request. He merely wants Pacquiao to no longer be promoted by Arum before he’ll agree to fight him. If Pacquiao wants the fight, then he’ll not re-sign with Arum when his contract with Top rank expires this year. If Pacquiao doesn’t care about the Maywether fight or if he doesn’t like being told what to do, he can re-sign with Arum for as long as he likes and never have to think about fighting Mayweather again. It’ll be academic if Pacquiao re-signs with Arum, that he’ll never fight Mayweather. But as far as Mayweather describing Pacquiao as desperate for a fight, Pacquiao shouldn’t let that get to him because it’s Mayweather just messing with him.

Pacquiao needs to be thicker skinned and learn to roll with the punches with Mayweather. If Mayweather is able to get to get to Pacquiao now just imagine what he’d do with him on a long press tour to hype a fight between them if the two were to agree on a fight. Mayweather would be pushing Pacquiao’s buttons left and right mentally and have him worked up to a boiling rage by the time the two fighters entered the ring. That would totally play in Mayweather’s hands, as he would be able to calmly pick off Pacquiao with shots and beat him with ease. I’d be bad to see Pacquiao as angry as wild man before he was released into the ring with Mayweather, because it would make the fight too one-sided for Mayweather. Pacquiao has got to be able keep his composure and see the big picture. Right now, Pacquiao doesn’t seem to have a clue about what makes Mayweather tick and he’s already acting like a defeated fighter.
