Stevenson: I’m definitely going to KO Bellew

stevenson222By Scott Gilfoid: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 19 KO’s) is dead certain that he’s going to be knocking out challenger Tony Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) this Saturday night in their fight at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. To Stevenson, it’s a given that he’s going to KO the stork-like Bellew and leave him on the canvas in a pile on Saturday night.

The only thing that Stevenson isn’t certain about is which round he’ll do the Liverpool native in. Stevenson feels that he’ll catch up to Bellew in the 4th or 5th round to drop one of his big bombs on him to get him out of there, but it could happen sooner if Bellew actually comes to fight and doesn’t run or clinch like mad to try and survive.

“I am training right this second and you can be sure that I am going to knock Bellew out,” Stevenson said to RingTV. “I think that the fight is going to go about four or five rounds and then I’m going to knock him out. It’s going to be with my ‘Superman punch.”

I almost feel sorry for Bellew because he’s in for it with Stevenson, and there’s nothing he can do about it. If Bellew shows up on Saturday night, he’s going to be counted out, it’s as simple as that. Even if Bellew employs his mauling strategy that he used in his last fight against Isaac Chilemba without being penalized, Bellew will still be knocked out because Stevenson is one of those rare fighters that can generate massive power even at close range.

I’ve only seen a few fighters over the years that can land knockout shots to the head while being held onto, and Stevenson is one of them. It might even be easier for him if Bellew does decide on trying to use his clinching tactics, because the ending will be quick and merciful with Stevenson landing a concussive straight left to the head from a foot away to send Bellew’s limp body collapsing down on the canvas.

I don’t see Bellew being able to get back up from a Stevenson left hand, but if he does get back up, Bellew will be quickly finished off with Stevenson’s next meteorite left hand. Stevenson doesn’t waste punches. That’s what I like him. Once he knocks Bellew don with a single shot, he’ll finish him with another single shot if he gets back up to his feet. Stevenson is like a bigger version of Julian Jackson, but with a better jab than Jackson.
