By Michael Turturice: Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (55-5-2 with 38KO’s) dominating show over Brandon Rios (31-2-1 with 23KO’s) has shown the sports writers that he is back atop the boxing world. Is this really the case? I see this in a whole different light. Rios is a good solid blood and guts fighter but also tailored made for the speedy Pacquiao.
This fight was just a replay of the Margarito fight. The same straight forward, slow footed style that Pacquiao destroyed before. Now I am confident that this fight was made to build Manny’s confidence since his string of loses and the KO served up by Marquez. At the end of the night it looked to me that the Pacquiao camp was riding high.
Now on to the question… Can we get a fight made with Manny Pacquiao and the Pound for Pound King Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0)? As a lifelong boxing fan I just don’t see this fight happening. Pacquiao is too dangerous for Mayweather Jr. Yes, I said it, I think with the style Manny brings to the ring it just doesn’t make sense for Mayweather and he knows it. The whole world would love to see these two guys face off in the square circle. I will hold a grudge against these two for not making this fight and giving the fans what they deserve.
Pac the man, or not? I say don’t drink the Kool-Aid just yet; fighters have to fight great fighters to be great. Not taking away from his record of beating some of the best in the sport but a win over Rios doesn’t put him at the top of the food chain in my book.
