Hatton gives Khan a chance at beating Mayweather

floyd9By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton, a former knockout victim of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KO’s), is giving Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) a good chance at beating Mayweather if they face each other next May. Hatton thinks that if Khan can box intelligently, avoid going to war with Floyd, and using his speed, he could pull off an upset in this fight.

Hatton is still wise enough to know that Khan would likely get beaten by Mayweather, but he thinks Khan could pull off the miracle upset if he fought the perfect fight.

Hatton told wharf.co.uk “There’s very few fighters that can match him [Mayweather] for speed. Normally people fly at Floyd, but if Amir can jab, move and keep ot of the way and, if Floyd has to be the attacker, it could be different…it would certainly be interesting if Amir swallows his pride for one fight and doesn’t go to war.”

Here’s the deal, Hatton. Khan is coming off what many boxing fans saw as a gift decision over a pretty much shot Julio Diaz last April. Diaz, who is eight years past his prime, dropped Khan in the 4th round in that fight and had him ready to go big time late in the fight. Now how in the heck do you think that Khan will be able to go from that god awful performance against Diaz to suddenly fighting with smarts and ring savvy to beat a talent like Mayweather? I just don’t see it. If you want to pick out a fighter that is going to beat Mayweather, then you’re going to have to look to the middleweight or super middleweight division to find that fighter. Khan isn’t your answer.

Khan has hand speed, there’s no question about that, but he runs around the ring like he doesn’t have any ideas in his head.

If you watch Khan’s fights against Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia and Diaz, you can see Khan running around the ring like a chicken with it’s head cut off, seemingly with no real strategy for the directions his feet took the rest of his body. Khan can’t beat a talent like Maywether by running to and fro. He’s got to be able to think clearly about what he wants to do, and that’s obviously not going to be possible because Khan is one of those guys that fights without any real method.

It’s just running without a plan. If Khan can does that against Mayweather, he’ll run right into one of Mayweather’s right hands or left hooks, and it’ll be all over. Sure, Khan can get back to his feet and continue to fight, but Mayweather always finishes his opponents off after he hurts them. He’s not going to be like a past his best Julio Diaz letting Khan off the hook after he hurts him multiple times. It’ll only take Mayweather one time to hurt Khan before he stops him.

It does like Khan will be next for Mayweather because he’s cleaned put the 147 and 154 lb. divisions. There’s no one else for Mayweather to fight but Khan and maybe Adrien Broner. The only reasons Khan is interesting is because of his hand speed and his ability to brag about himself. He’ll make it an interesting build up to a Mayweather fight by talking himself up 24/7 for anyone willing to listen to him, and believe me a lot of people will be interested in hearing Khan yak.
