Froch: I’m going to take pleasure in beating Groves

froch77By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 2 KO’s) is all bent out of shape about his opponent for November 23rd unbeaten George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) not showing him the respect that he feels he has coming to him, so now Froch wants to punish him for it. Froch and Groves will meet up at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, in United Kingdom.

It’s a fight and I don’t know how Froch could try to punish Groves anymore than he would under normal circumstances. I mean, where is Froch going to find extra power to give Groves more of a beating. If Groves isn’t as good as him, Froch will win regardless. If anything, Froch trying harder to punish Groves for his trash talking will backfire on Froch with him fighting even more sloppy than he did in his last fight against Mikkel Kessler last May.

That was one of the poorest fights I’ve ever seen from Froch technique-wise. He looked awful in that fight, and was doing amateurish moves like missing and then spinning completely around. To be sure, Froch was lucky that Kessler was playing it nice because a lot of fighters likely would have brained Froch in the back of the head if he turned completely around and exposed the back of his head to them.

Froch told Sky Sports “I’m the one with nothing to prove. I’ve done it all. I’m world champion and have beaten the best of the best. I’ve been in with the elite fighters. My fighting speaks for itself. George Groves has talked a lot. He’s talked me down and given me a load of rubbish. He needs to now back it up. I’m going to take great pleasure in beating him.”

I think Froch doesn’t understand that all fighters have to prove themselves in every bout. It’s a constant process. It’s Froch’s job to prove himself each time he fights, and if he doesn’t understand that then I feel sorry for him. If he was working at a coffee shop dishing out coffee to paying customers, he’d have to prove himself worthy of keeping that job daily. I mean, Froch couldn’t just start slopping the coffee around, and filling the cups only halfway to the top. You do a poor job then it’s over for you. The fact of the matter is Froch DOES have to prove himself against Groves because if he doesn’t then he’s going to get spanked. It’s as simple as that.

Froch is 36-years-old now, and contrary to what some of his fans have been saying about how sensational he supposedly looked in his last fight against Kessler, the fact is Froch didn’t look good. What I saw of Froch in that fight was the beginning signs of age starting to creep into his body, affecting his performance. With Froch fighting a faster, stronger and much younger Groves, the timing is terrible for Froch. This fight is coming at the wrong time for him. Groves is almost hitting his peak at 25, whereas Froch is starting to show age at 36.
