canelo90By By Babatis Banda: It is count down time to Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez this Saturday night. It used to be months then it became weeks and now it is days. Soon, it will be a matter of hours. We have heard all manner of arguments and counter arguments. There has been predictions, some in the extreme and some modest.

A number of people, in their fear of what will happen are already preparing for excuses. One thing for sure is that both men are confident of a positive result and no one can claim that there was a soft pick here.

This fight is about power against pure craft. It is about size against wits. It will be about the check-hook against a wicked left-hook. It’s everything about the sport of boxing. Records will be broken and there is no reason for speculation anymore. One of the two will emerge as the unbeaten P4P super star unless the unthinkable happens, a draw. For whoever you are supporting, Sunday the 15th of September should be a day to acknowledge greatness of whoever wins. Currently, the two are the best boxers on the planet. For Mayweather, it is proven and for Canelo, here is the chance.

Make no mistake about it; there will be no flukes in this one. There should never be any stupid conspiracy theories about the outcome of the fight. Let the best man carry the day. There should never be cries of weight issues, either side has nothing to say about weight otherwise Floyd should have turned down this fight if he felt Canelo was too big and likewise, Canelo should not cry foul for the catch-weight otherwise he should be fighting in his right weight category. As far as the fans are concerned, these two men are standing on a leveled play field and the best man should win.

Depending on how close this fight will be, a re-match might be in the making. If Canelo will be on top of his game, he may rock Floyd here and there. If the Gods look at him kindly, he may just land his power punch right on the button, and who knows how Floyd would take it? On the other hand, if Floyd will be on top of his game, it may not even be a close fight. Floyd’s power is underrated, but he can cause chaos to a young man like Alvarez. This fight was highly anticipated, even before it was actually made. Theories both positive and negative were floating around but this is the time to put these theories to test.

Those that say this bout is not worthy, let them lick their wounds. Why would this fight be the highest grossing fight? Why are people buying expensive tickets to see this match? Why is Floyd getting paid a record breaking amount of money to enter the squared circle? All I am saying is, the winner must take his rightful place as the undisputed king of the sport. We asked for this, then let us enjoy it. All I can say is, let the best man win.
