If Mayweather Jr. injures his hands against Canelo, will he be doomed?

floyd666By Gerardo Granados: Next Saturday night all the questions, theories and probable game plans will finally be resolved for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight. We will even get to know if Mayweather Jr’s hands will resist twelve rounds of battle without any injure. I have never done it and the reader might have had done it, but for sure Mayweather Jr. has done it more than once; and that is to fight with a broken hand. You must be determined and have the will to win to fight true pain and Money has proved to have the heart of a champion.

A friend of mine thinks that even if Floyd injures his hand he will still be able to win by decision. The only problem is that my friend based his opinion on the fact that on a major sports site there is a poll in which a large part of the voters (from all around the world) have picked Money to win either by decision or even by knockout. I believe my friend need to understand a few things before placing his bet based on internet polls.

It won’t be too hard to notice if Floyd brakes his hand and Alvarez could even hit Mayweather´s guard to weaken his hands in case he notices that the veteran lion stops using one of his fists. Against Jose Luis Castillo, Floyd hurt his shoulder and that lead to a sensible decrease in his performance that allowed Castillo to come back to win the second half of the fight in which I believed he should have won by 114-112. Now, Canelo´s size and power can’t be compared to Castillo´s and also Floyd is much older now.

I told my friend that if Floyd hurts his hand on the final three rounds he would still be able to manage to keep the lead on the score cards to win but that if he hurt his hands early on the fight he would be doomed. And to be fair I told him that if Alvarez hurts his hands he would be doomed too, even more because he relies on his power to win.

I am having second thoughts on my bet but not on the result but instead on the amount to place. But I have no doubt that if Floyd hurt his hands early on the fight he will be doomed. Will he?
