Rios: I’m going to knock Pacquiao out

pac006By Chris Williams: Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) is going to make it really tough on Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) when they face each other in the ring on November 23rd in Macao, China. Rios sees there being a lot of dripping blood in this fight en route to him getting a knockout win over the aging Pacquiao.

Rios told esnewsreporting “I’m going to win this fight. I’m going to knock him out. [Juan Manuel] Marquez kicked his a**. I’m going for the kill.”

It doesn’t sound good for Pacquiao. He fought poorly when he was cut in his first fight with Erik Morales in 2005. This was the only fight where Morales was still in prime condition. In their subsequent fights, Morales was weight drained due to him letting his weight get out of hand and it led to him losing both fights with Pacquiao.

It seems like Rios is ready to do whatever he can to get the win in this fight. He’s been sparring with Marcos Maidana recently and that sparring must have been pure hell for Rios because Maidana is a bigger puncher than Pacquiao. If Rios was able to handle the sparring with Maidana then he’ll definitely be able to deal with Pacquiao because he’s not as much of a machine like Maidana. Pacquiao was a good brawler years ago, but he’s definitely slipped a couple of notches in the past three years and he’s not what he was back in 2008-2009, which was probably the best point of Pacquiao’s career.

Rios is going to be putting a lot of pressure on Pacquiao in this fight and making him fight a lot harder than he did in his recent fights. The last time that Pacquiao was put under constant pressure in a fight was when he faced Antonio Margarito in 2010, and he took a lot of punishing shots in that fight. Pacquiao may have won but it was a brutal fight for him.

If Rios takes the fight to the 34-year-old Pacquiao, I can see a lot of blood if Rios doesn’t get a quick stoppage win like Juan Manuel Marquez did last December.
