Golovkin willing to fight Canelo and Mayweather at 154

golovkin43By Dan Ambrose: IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) says he’s willing to come down to 154 to face WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) at 154 if they’re willing to accept the fight with him.

Golovkin wants to fight the top middleweights – Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Peter Quillin, Daniel Geale and Sergio Martinez – but the prospects of getting any of them in the same ring with him anytime soon or about zero. As such, Golovkin is open to facing the winner of the Mayweather-Canelo fight if they want to accept the fight.

Before anyone says anything about Golovkin being too big or too heavy for either Mayweather or Canelo, sink your teeth into this: Golovkin weighed 170 lb. last night for his 3rd round knockout win over Matthew Macklin.

Canelo weighed 172 lbs. for his last fight against Austin Trout when he entered the ring against him on fight night. In other words, Canelo weighed more than Golovkin did last night and Golovkin is a middleweight. There are no excuses for why Canelo can’t fight Golovkin because he’s about the same weight as him.

Would Golden Boy Promotions let Canelo face Golovkin? I don’t think so. I doubt they’ll let him do that, and I don’t think for a second Canelo would accept the fight. It would probably be too dangerous of a fight for Canelo and there wouldn’t be a huge weight advantage for him like there is when he fights welterweights.

It is interesting that Golovkin and Canelo weigh almost exactly same, but Golovkin is fighting at middleweight and Canelo at junior middleweight.

The two fighters sparred with each in the past and Golovkin was said to have dominated the sparring session.

Mayweather vs. Golovkin would be a great fight. I think it would be a lot better match-up for Mayweather then to see him fighting the likes of Devon Alexander, Lucas Matthysse, Amir Khan or Danny Garcia.

I think Golovkin would be willing to face the loser of the Mayweather-Canelo fight if he had the chance. He’d obviously want the winner of the fight, but if all he can get is the loser, I’m sure he’d take that fight in a second. Fighting either Mayweather or Canelo would be a huge fight for Golovkin.
