By Dan Ambrose: Ruben Guerrero, the father for WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s), completely took over the final press conference and trash talked a very calm Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) for what seemed like forever earlier today.

Even when Oscar De La Hoya was trying to move in to cut off Ruben’s long rant, he continued to try and goad Mayweather into an argument. It didn’t work because Mayweather stood there impassively, not moved by Ruben’s trash talking.

Here is a small taste of what Ruben said: “We’re going to beat-up that woman beater, the one who beat up his wife, his wife in front of his kids. You guys like that s***? You like this guy? A woman beater? He must have learned that from his dad. Woman beater, baby. We’re going to beat that woman beater. See how he’s going to like it. He’s going to get it from a real man.”

The way that Ruben was talking for Robert Guerrero it reminded me a lot of how WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia’s dad Angel Garcia tends to do most of the trash talking for Danny for his opponents while Danny just stands there and lets him do the work.

Mayweather looked totally subdued, but what could he say? It wasn’t like he was going to get into an argument with Robert’s dad over his own personal life. That would have looked bad on the stage and it was better that Mayweather took the high road and let Ruben be the one that did the trash talking.

This is might end up back firing on Guerrero’s dad if Mayweather ends up schooling Robert on Saturday night in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. All the trash talking in the world won’t be able to change the reality of the situation for Robert if he can’t back it up in the ring.
