Deontay Wilder – Does Golden Boy know something that we don’t?

deontay11By Tony Crooks: Something very strange just occurred to me; Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) are touting unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) as the next heavyweight champion. They say his punching power is phenomenal. They say that as soon as he hits anyone with his right hand that they will be knocked out.

Now here is my point, GBP have invested a lot of money in Wilder, training camps, travel, accommodation, trainers and corner men, all have to be paid. This all comes to a lot of money.

If they believe that Wilder is so good and is going to be this unstoppable force that they are marketing him, then why did GBP not have some kind of minders or chaperones with him at all times.

If I believed that I had a heavyweight superstar on my hands. I would make sure that my investment was secure. Where was GBP investment when he was arrested? It is like taking the Crown Jewels on an exhibition tour without any security.

Do GBP know that Wilder is nothing more than a fraud or is just bad management in not protecting their investment? Here are some facts, why has Wilder after 28 fights not faced any top ten ranked fighters? Why feed a man with so much talent fighters that are supposedly not in his league? You have to start asking questions.

Dereck Chisora has fought two world champions and a European champion. Yes, he lost, but here is another point; Chisora tested himself, he did not shy away from top class opposition. He was due to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitshko, but the younger Klitschko brother pulled out with injury problems. So going back to my last point: why is someone that is touted as the next heavyweight champion not fighting the quality that Chisora has faced in fewer fights? Finally, if you had a valuable asset, would you not protect it at all costs? You tell me your views!
