Chisora should come to U.S to fight Deontay Wilder

chisora45By Scott Gilfoid: The proposed June 15th fight between American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 Ko’s) and British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (16-4, 10 KO’s) may not happen for a number of reasons, one of which is Deontay’s legal issues stemming from his May 4th arrest in Las Vegas, Nevada for domestic battery.

It’s unclear whether Deontay can travel outside of the U.S next month with that issue still not having been taken care of. However, that doesn’t mean that Chisora can’t come to the U.S to fight Deontay if Chisora and his promoter Frank Warren really want the fight that badly.

Granted, the money won’t be the same because the gate for a Wilder vs. Chisora fight would likely be only a fraction of what it would be if the fight were to be staged in the UK, but what are you going to do?

They have to wait for some time before Wilder is ready to travel to the UK, and I doubt Chisora wants to hang around for a long time waiting. But he can remedy that by flying over to the U.S and fight Deontay in Alabama in front of Deontay’s hometown fans.

Yeah, the money won’t be as good, but if Chisora beats Wilder it’ll still be Just as much of a career plus as it would if the fight took place in the UK.

A win over the #9 WBA ranked Deontay would no doubt catapult Chisora into the top 15 of the world heavyweight rankings and put him in position to where he could easily work his way into another title shot against one of the Klitschkos.

Chisora got a nice payday last year in losing to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in Munich, Germany. Chisora even gave Vitali a lot of problems with his pressure and hard looping right hands.

It’s true Vitali was fighting one-handed after injuring his left shoulder in the 2nd, but Chisora was still able to take Vitali’s right hands for 12 rounds in the process of losing a lopsided decision.

If Chisora wants the fight with Deontay, then he needs to agree to travel to the U.S and fight him in Alabama. I’m sure Golden Boy Promotions would jump at the chance to make that fight happen because it’s a no-brainer, a win-win for Deontay and possibly Chisora should he win.
