One of the busiest boxing weekends of the year is on tap!

By Yoel Carratala: This upcoming weekend is loaded with World Class Boxing action. We will have major action in a number of weight classes featuring some big names, world title fights and possible futures stars.

The actions get started on Friday in Atlantic City on ESPN Friday Night Fights at 10:30 P.M. with a Triple-header. This card features Dominican Republic’s Star and current Interim WBA Featherweight Champion Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (21-0, 15 KOs) defending his crown against Mexico’s Miguel “Mikol” Zamudio (21-1-1 13KOs).

Also featured is former Middleweight Julian Jackson’s son, John “Dah Rock” Jackson (15-1, 14 KOs) from the Virgin Islands against St. Paul, Minnesota’s “Sir” Cerresso Fort (16-0-1, 11 KOs), in a six round junior middleweight bout. The third bout of the Triple-header is Between Ghana’s Emmanuel Lartei Lartey (14-0-1, 7 KOs) and the Dominican Republic’s Jonathan Batista (13-0, 6 KOs) in a six or eight-round welterweight battle of undefeated prospects. This promises to be a great card to open up the fight weekend!

The action continues on Saturday afternoon at 4 P.M. in the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City featuring Heavyweights on NBC. The Main Event features the return of heavyweight action to MSG with Ireland’s Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) taking Steve “USS” Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) of the United States in an IBF Eliminator. The main support bout will be an eight round Middleweight affair between American’s Curtis Stevens (23-3 17 KOs) and Derrick Findley 20-9 13 KOs). This card has future implications on the Heavyweight rankings and is a must watch.

For those that a little extra in between time tune into EPIX at 6:30 P.M., Nathan Cleverly (25-0 12KOs) vs. Robin Krasniqi (39-2 15 KOs) from the Wembley Arena in London, England for the WBO Light Heavyweight Championship.

Saturday evening continues with a stellar card on Showtime Championship Boxing at 10:00 P.M., featuring a unification fight at Jr. Middleweight from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The Main Event features the WBC/WBA Jr. Middleweight Unification between two undefeated stars. WBC Champ, Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) faces WBA Champ Austin “No Doubt” Trout (26-0, 14 KOs) of the United States. This will be the young Mexican superstar’s biggest test as a professional prize fighter as he faces Trout, who comes of his biggest win against Miguel Cotto. The winner of this bout will headed for bigger payday’s quite possibly against Floyd Mayweather or even Cotto. The key undercard bout features Puerto Rican Lightweight Abner Cotto (13-0, 5KOs) against Texas prospect Omar Figueroa (20-0-1 16 KOs) for the vacant WBC Silver Super Lightweight Championship. Prior to the beginning of the Showtime telecast, SHO Extreme will air the undercard fights at 8:00 P.M. with the front runner fir the telecast being 19 year old Mexican Prospect Andres “Jaguarcito” Gutierrez (25-0-1, 21 KO) against Salvador Sanchez II (30-5-3, 18KOs) for the WBC Silver Super Bantamweight Championship.

For those that want more top level action UniMas has a late night card which sirs at 11:30 P.M. featuring Victor Terrazas (36-2-1, 21 KO) vs Cristian Mijares (47-6-2, 22 KO) for vacant WBC Super Bantamweight title, from Mexico City, Mexico.

This is what die-hard fight fans live for, plenty of top notch fights, with many world titles at stake. Don’t miss out on the action; whatever you fight preference is, on this weekend their should be something for your pleasure!
