Deontay Wilder: If I hit Audley Harrison hard enough I’ll put him into a retirement home

wilder33By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight knockout artist Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) plans on not only knocking British heavyweight Audley Harrison (31-6, 23 KO’s) this month on April 27th, but he also plans on sending the 41-year-old Audley into retirement or a retirement home by hitting him so hard that he can’t continue to fight.

Deontay said to the BBC Sport “I’m predicting a knockout. If I connect correctly, I can put you into retirement or a retirement home…He [Audley] falls and he keeps getting back up. I like that…I’m the next heavyweight champion of the world.”

Deontay and Audley will be fighting on the Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz undercard at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, UK. The fight should be the main event because it’s going to be a lot more interesting for the one or two rounds that it lasts compared to the mismatch in the main event put together by Golden Boy Promotions.

Perhaps the main reason why Deontay likes the idea of Audley getting back up each time he gets knocked down is because it’ll give Deontay and opportunity to get poleaxing him with right hands. Each time Audley gets back up it’s going to be worse and worse.

I fully expect Audley to stay down after the first time he gets dropped by Deontay, but if he does somehow continue to fight, it’s going to be bad for him because Deontay is vicious when he’s got one of his opponents wobbled and near defenseless.

I see a lot of quick stoppages in the UK and I’m betting the referee will halt the fight after Audley gets back up from the 1st knockdown rather than letting Deontay put Audley out of his misery with a coup de gras right hand to the head finisher.

This is going to be tough on Audley once he gets hit. I don’t expect him to retire if and when he gets knocked out by Deontay, but I don’t think he’s going to be feeling too good afterwards.
